### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. Through Project Managers Without Borders, PMI connects chapters and volunteers with nonprofits and NGOs that need project management expertise to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of social initiatives. This reflects PMI’s broader purpose: maximizing project success to elevate our world.

Lindsey Graham, the longtime Republican Senator who represented [South Carolina,](https://time.com/4219814/south-carolina-primary-dirty-politics/) died at 71 on Saturday evening. In a brief [statement](https://x.com/LindseyGrahamSC), his office said the Senator “passed away from a brief and sudden illness” and requested privacy for his family.

Emergency Medical Services [audio](https://x.com/STATter911/status/2076228816276447387) shows that emergency workers arrived at Graham's Capitol Hill address at 8:27 p.m. Saturday in response to “chest pains.”

Graham joined the House of Representatives in 1995 and the Senate in 2003\. He was then reelected three times and was poised to pursue a fourth in 2026\.

A fixture in national politics, and a central conservative voice, Graham was known for his hawkish approach to foreign policy, for chairing the Senate Judiciary Committee, and for his dramatic political shift from outspoken [critic](https://time.com/4321514/lindsey-graham-donald-trump-gop-convention/) to staunch [ally](https://time.com/5414119/lindsey-graham-donald-trump-mocking-christine-blasey-ford/) of President Donald Trump. He was scheduled to appear on Sunday’s _Meet the Press_.

According to South Carolina law, Republican Gov. Henry McMaster must now appoint a temporary replacement to Graham’s seat on the Senate. A special primary election will then be held on August 11—with a possible runoff later in August—to choose a new Republican nominee to face Democrat Annie Andrews in the state’s midterm elections in November.

News of Graham's death prompted an outpouring of tributes from political allies, rivals, and world leaders.

## Global Leaders Pay Their Respects

### President Donald Trump

Trump called Graham “one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known,” in a post on Truth Social [early Sunday](https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116905798341654664)

“He was always working, and was a true American Patriot,” Trump said. “Lindsey will be greatly missed!!!”

Graham was once a vocal critic of Trump, having run against him in the presidential primary in 2016, and [called](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bkDykGhM8c) him a “race-baiting xenophobic religious bigot” at the time. However, after a [reported “make-up” lunch](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2018/09/what-happened-to-lindsey-graham.html) between the two in 2017, he seemed to have a change of heart.

“The American people spoke, and they rejected my analysis,” Graham said on CBS’s _Face the Nation_ in 2018.

Graham went on to vigorously defend Trump's nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, and he supported the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett.

In a Sunday interview with NBC’s _Meet the Press,_ Trump said he spoke with Graham shortly before his death and that their final call was about the [SAVE Act. ](https://time.com/article/2026/07/08/we-re-conservative-republicans-the-save-act-is-a-mistake/)

“This is a big blow to the SAVE America Act, let me tell you,” Trump told host Kristen Welker. He said that he’d told Graham: “‘We’re going to get it done, Lindsey, we’re going to get it done, I’ll see you, like soon.’”

### Tributes from officials across the U.S.

Politicians from across the aisle mourned and praised Graham on Sunday.

Vice President J.D. Vance [recalled](https://x.com/JDVance/status/2076305713576509465?s=20) an anecdote from his time in the Senate involving a “shouting match” with Graham over funding Ukraine. In retelling it, Vance shared that he later discovered that Graham was helping push one of Vance’s priorities behind the scenes.

“That was Lindsey Graham. He fought like hell for the things he believed in, and he was just as willing to go to bat for you when it counted,” Vance said.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune [called](https://x.com/LeaderJohnThune/status/2076204028053045750) Graham “a trusted adviser and colleague to me and many others, and numerous presidents and heads of state have relied on his counsel.”

“His influence on the federal judiciary, our national defense, and his beloved South Carolina will be felt for generations,” Thune said.

Tim Scott, South Carolina’s other Republican senator, [remembered Graham](https://x.com/SenatorTimScott/status/2076222228337737878?s=20) for leading with “faith, family, and South Carolina first” and for bringing “levity and wit” to challenging moments.

Rep. James Clyburn, the sole Democrat representing South Carolina in Washington, also mourned Graham.

“We maintained a relationship grounded in mutual respect, even when our political differences were significant,” Clyburn said [on X](https://x.com/RepJamesClyburn/status/2076298851036618940). “His commitment to public service and the people he represented will remain an enduring part of his legacy.”

Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware, who spent Graham’s 71st birthday with him in Turkey during the recent NATO summit, praised him as “no better friend, no tougher adversary.”

“It’s my hope that we will take up and pass this bill in Lindsey’s memory this week when we all get back to session,” Coons said on ABC’s _This Week_ on Sunday.

Former President George W. Bush said that he and his wife, Laura Bush, were “saddened” to wake up to the news.

“He was a knowledgeable Senator who understood how the world works and how important America’s international engagement is to resist tyranny,” Bush wrote in a statement. “He was a kind and funny man who loved our country and loved serving it. South Carolina was fortunate to have such a committed public servant in its corner. And I was fortunate to have known Lindsey Graham.”

Former President Joe Biden [recalled](https://x.com/JoeBiden/status/2076330621287137332) his own years of service in Congress with Graham. The two lawmakers “disagreed often, and sometimes loudly.”

Still, he added, “Lindsey and I did agree on the profound importance of public service. Like me, he loved the Senate as an institution, even with all its flaws and complexities.”

### Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy

The South Carolina senator was a vocal ally of Ukraine, which reflected his longstanding interventionist foreign policy views. On his most recent trip to Kyiv, Graham and President Volodymyr Zelensky [discussed](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3n2mWvtOcA) bolstering Ukraine's military capabilities and continuing sanctions, as well as a diplomatic push for peace talks with Moscow.

Zelensky remembered Graham [on social media](https://x.com/ZelenskyyUa/status/2076230750748148175) as a “true defender of freedom and the values that make our world safer.”

“He visited Ukraine ten times during the years of Russia's full-scale invasion and was here with our people when it was most needed,” Zelensky wrote. “We remained in constant dialogue, and I will miss our conversations.”

### Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
