In an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt, Trump [repeated criticism](https://time.com/article/2026/04/14/catholic-vance-breaks-silence-on-deleted-trump-jesus-image-amid-outcry/) of the head of the Catholic Church over what the U.S. President sees as his stance on Iran and the nuclear issue. "I think ⁠he's endangering a lot of Catholics and ‌a lot of people,” Trump said. “But I guess it's up to the Pope. He thinks it's just fine for Iran to have a nuclear weapon." U.S. ambassador to the Holy See Brian Burch said he expects the meeting to involve “frank” discussions. "I will continue to speak out loudly against war, looking to promote peace, promoting dialogue and ⁠multilateral relationships among the states to look for just solutions to problems," Leo said.
