This year, TIME editors launch the **TIME100 Companies: Industry Leaders** lists, an expansion of the TIME100 Most Influential Companies issue that dives deeper into 20 sectors to look at the companies shaping their industries. These are the 10 most influential companies in retail of 2026.

### Quince

_Affordable luxury_

You’d be forgiven for approaching Quince with skepticism. When co-founders Sid Gupta and Zunu Mittal launched the San Francisco-based luxury-for-less lifestyle brand in 2018, reviewers expressed shock that any retailer could sell typically expensive fabrics like cashmere and linen at affordable prices. (Quince’s $50 Mongolian cashmere sweater has gone viral several times over.) But eight years after its founding, many cynics have become believers: in March 2026, it [announced a $500 million Series E](https://www.retaildive.com/news/Quince-500-million-series-e-valuation-tops-10b/814412/), increasing its valuation to $10.1 billion. Along the way, the company has expanded across product categories, including luggage, jewelry, bedding, supplements, home décor, and even wine and caviar, with every product page offering a price breakdown and competitor brand comps. Quince attributes its success to contracting directly with factories, purchasing items in smaller quantities first (to test performance), and relying on word of mouth to bolster organic growth. But the real X factor might be its use of AI to help forecast demand. “It's less, ‘Let's look at XYZ brand and see what they do,’” says Dakota Kate Isaacs, head of brand strategy and narrative. “Instead, it's more, ‘What does the consumer actually want, and where is there an opportunity to do it faster, \[with\] better quality, and at a more accessible price point?” —_Rachel Brodsky_

### Vusion

_Price tags go paperless_

Wandering the grocery aisle, you might watch the price of sourdough drop in the time it takes to remember if you already have a loaf at home. That’s the power of electronic shelf labels (ESLs), an efficient replacement for traditional paper price tags that let stores update costs, promotions, and product availability in an instant. France-based Vusion, a leader in the global ESL market, boasts partnerships with major retailers from Walmart to Sephora, and its revenue reached [$1.79 billion in 2025, up 51% from 2024](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/vusion-group-revenue-profit-jump-143917855.html). “We're about digitizing physical commerce…making stores more connected, data-driven, and automated, but also much more interactive and personalized,” says chairman and CEO Thierry Gadou. Due to concerns about the potential for surge and surveillance pricing, some U.S. states, [including New York](https://ag.ny.gov/press-release/2026/attorney-general-james-calls-passage-legislation-protect-new-yorkers-predatory), have introduced legislation to prohibit the use of ESLs in grocery stores and pharmacies—though [a 2025 study](https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract%5Fid=5271491) found that ESLs have not led to surge pricing in U.S. grocery retail. But Gadou says Vusion customer satisfaction scores [have actually increased](https://www.vusion.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/VusionGroup%5F2023%5FESG%5FReport-2023-EN.pdf), citing internal ESG data. “We see no dynamic pricing in retail today,” he says, referring to in-store shopping. “This controversy is not backed by reality.” —_Grace Rasmus_

### Barnes & Noble

_Brick-and-mortar revival_

Just call Barnes & Noble the comeback kid. After years of declining sales, the centenarian bookseller’s about-face began in 2019, when it was acquired by Elliott, the owner of the U.K.’s Waterstones book chain, and taken private. Instead of competing with everything-retailers like Amazon and Walmart, Barnes & Noble recommitted to its original focus: [books](https://time.com/collections/the-100-must-read-books-of-2025/). A pandemic-era [reading revival](https://time.com/5520570/books-are-not-dead/)—and the growing popularity of the TikTok community [BookTok](https://time.com/6590247/sarah-j-maas-interview-house-of-flame-and-shadow/)—supercharged the strategy. “There was a boom in people wanting a break from screens,” says Shannon DeVito, senior director of book strategy. “People started becoming attracted to the physical book again.” The company also put employees in charge of rearranging shelves, curating displays, and monitoring news and trends in online reader communities to tailor each store’s mix of titles. “That's what really influences what sells books,” DeVito says, adding that Barnes & Noble has experienced solid, consistent growth over the last three years. The chain opened around 60 new U.S. stores in 2025, with a similar number planned for this year. Also, in September, the company acquired struggling indie shop Books Inc., allowing it to maintain its nine independent locations while providing resources and support. “As humans, we always find our way back to books,” DeVito says. “It's a special connection point for us to each other.” —_Charlotte Hu_

### Back Market

_Tech circularity leader_

With millions of old smartphones kicking around in junk drawers across the globe, why buy new? [Thibaud Hug de Larauze](https://time.com/collections/time100-next-2025/7318818/thibaud-hug-de-larauze/), Vianney Vaute, and Quentin Le Brouster answered that question in 2014 when they launched Back Market, a digital marketplace offering professionally refurbished electronics. “There’s no more point in going to Verizon and signing a 36-month contract for $150 every month,” says Hug de Larauze, the Paris-based CEO. In addition to smartphones, laptops, and tablets, Back Market’s 18 million customers can now buy discounted gaming consoles and home appliances on the platform, too. In February, the company announced $3.5 billion in gross merchandise value for 2025, up 32% from 2024\. And while 67% of users are European, Hug de Larauze says economy and tariff concerns have driven rapid U.S. growth. On top of a one-year limited warranty on all products, an analog approach could help seal the deal for skeptics: last fall, at the company’s first brick-and-mortar, in Manhattan, shoppers tested out pre-owned devices IRL. —_Grace Rasmus_

### Warby Parker

_Next-gen eyewear_

A DTC darling is entering a new era. In 2025, its first full year of profitability, Warby Parker sunsetted its pioneering Home Try-On program, where customers could borrow five glasses frames for free—no store visit needed. Today, physical retail is a priority, according to co-founders and co-CEOs Neil Blumenthal and Dave Gilboa. Founded in 2010, the company now has over 330 stores nationwide, up 47 net stores in 2025, and is piloting shop-in-shop concepts in five Target locations. “It’s really about being convenient and easy,” Blumenthal says of the store-in-store concept. “I think that's a core part of an exceptional customer journey and experience.” Warby Parker’s next act, meanwhile, is focused on AI. In 2026, the company will launch AI-powered smart lenses in partnership with Google. These glasses will tie into “all the software you use daily to provide real-time context and answers to anything you're curious about,” says Gilboa. “We're really excited that it's going to untether people's attention from staring down.” —_Grace Rasmus_

### Whatnot

_Live shopping upstart_

Those trying to cut down on screen time should resist downloading Whatnot, the livestream shopping app where the thrill of a limited-supply auction meets the parasocial rush of chatting with your favorite influencers. Founded in 2019, the app’s hundreds of thousands of sellers pitch largely collectible, vintage, or luxury products QVC-style, from antique vases to limited-edition Nikes, while buyers bid on them in real time or snag them instantly. Users spend an average of 95 minutes a day on the app, according to the company, a figure nearly equal to [TikTok’s daily user average](https://explodingtopics.com/blog/time-spent-on-tiktok). Though Whatnot raised $225 million at an $11.5 billion valuation in October 2025, less than a year after a $5 billion valuation, there’s plenty of competition: TikTok Shop and Amazon Live have built-in audiences from their core offerings, and Alibaba’s Taobao Live has dominated the Asia market for a decade. But CEO and co-founder Grant LaFontaine says Whatnot stands out by “helping small businesses grow.” One in eight sellers on the platform has made it their full-time job. —_Grace Rasmus_

### DoorDash

_Autonomous delivery expansion_

Your next DoorDash order could arrive courtesy of Dot, the company’s new autonomous robot designed for short-range deliveries. Launched in September in the greater Phoenix area (with additional locations planned this year), the tomato-red bot with _Wall-E_\-esque eyes uses advanced sensors and camerasto navigate roads, bike lanes, and sidewalks at speeds of up to 20 mph. In 2025, the company also launched its Autonomous Delivery Platform, which uses AI to instruct merchants on optimal delivery methods, as well as SmartScale, an AI-powered device that weighsorders for accuracy, reducing incidents of missing items by up to 30%. Co-founder Stanley Tang says Doordash is committed to “equipping local businesses with the same level of technology” available to giants like Amazon. In October, the company announced a partnership with Serve Robotics to bring more [autonomous delivery robots to U.S. cities including Los Angeles](https://about.doordash.com/en-us/news/doordash-serve-launch-partnership), and finalized its [acquisition of British food delivery company Deliveroo](https://ir.doordash.com/news/news-details/2025/DoorDash-Completes-Acquisition-of-Deliveroo/default.aspx) in hopes of capturing the U.K. market. —_Shannon Carlin_

### Nuuly

_Rent your closet_

For a new generation of shoppers, Nuuly is helping make clothing rental the norm. Launched in 2019 by URBN (the parent company of Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, and Free People), the service allows users to choose six pieces from a pool of 22,000 for $98 per month. Today, it counts almost 400,000 active subscribers, nearly [twice Rent the Runway’s total](https://investors.renttherunway.com/news-releases/news-release-details/rent-runway-inc-announces-third-quarter-2025-results) and bolstered by a [53% year-over-year increase in 2025](https://www.retaildive.com/news/apparel-rental-site-nuuly-profitable-half-billion-sales-goal/741122/). The company also runs its own warehouses, laundry, repair, and logistics operations. “We built Nuuly from scratch with a larger organization that understands fashion, brand-building, and operations at scale,” says president Dave Hayne. “That gave us the ability to invest early…and really own the experience end to end.” The investment is paying off: Nuuly’s distinctive totes and monthly haul videos have become a mainstay on TikTok, and in February 2025, the company reported its first profitable fiscal year and expects to surpass $500 million in annual revenue in 2026\. —_Nina Derwin_

### Jellycat

_Immersive world of plushies_

The collectible toys craze shows little sign of slowing, with the [plush industry growing 102% from 2019 to 2024](https://www.toyassociation.org/ta/toys/research-and-data/data/us-sales-data.aspx). But British toymaker [Jellycat](https://time.com/6234061/toys-for-adults-popularity/), known for its whimsical soft plushies of animals, food, and everyday objects, has gained a unique cult following by building worlds around its stuffed toys. “We realized fans wanted real, joyful, memory‑making moments,” CEO Arnaud Meysselle says of the brand’s first experience, the Jellycat Diner, which opened in FAO Schwarz in New York in 2023\. “The reaction was beyond anything we could have imagined.” More experiential activations and pop-ups followed in 2024 and 2025, like the Jellycat Patisserie at Galeries Lafayette Paris and the Jellycat Ski Club in L.A., plus shop-in-shop locations, including at Harrods London. The company, which works with more than 7,000 retailers in 80 countries, saw sales jump from $7 million in 2013 to $252 million in 2023 and $446 million in 2024\. In 2026, Jellycat opened spaces in Milan, Copenhagen, and Stuttgart, Germany, with Hong Kong on the horizon. This summer, the company plans to expand its partnerships with Nordstrom in the U.S. and Holt Renfrew in Canada. Meysselle says a few more surprises could be in store before Christmas. —_Charlotte Hu_

### Shopify

_AI commerce trailblazer_

Forget riding the agentic commerce wave—Ottawa-based ecommerce platform Shopify wants to power it. “Commerce is moving from search to conversation,” says president Harley Finkelstein, referring to chatbot-enabled shopping. “That's a fundamental shift.” According to the company—a SaaS platform that lets merchants build ecommerce storefronts and manage payments, logistics, and operations—AI-driven orders have increased 15-fold since January 2025, thanks to expanded integrations with Google’s Gemini and ChatGPT that offer, say, a link to buy an espresso machine in a conversation about lattes versus cappuccinos. In 2025, Shopify, which supports more than 14% of U.S. ecommerce, [reported $11.56 billion in revenue](https://www.shopify.com/news/shopify-q4-2025-financial-results), up 30% from 2024\. In January, the company announced the [Universal Commerce Protocol](https://ucp.dev/), enabling AI agents to handle all steps from search to checkout and allowing [millions of merchants across more than 175 countries](https://www.shopify.com/news/about-us) to sell directly through AI agents.
