### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. Through Project Managers Without Borders, PMI connects chapters and volunteers with nonprofits and NGOs that need project management expertise to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of social initiatives. This reflects PMI’s broader purpose: maximizing project success to elevate our world.

This year, TIME editors launch the **TIME100 Companies: Industry Leaders** lists, an expansion of the TIME100 Most Influential Companies issue that dives deeper into 20 sectors to look at the companies shaping their industries. These are the 10 most influential companies in food and drink of 2026.

### Ferrero Group

_Improving sweet treats_

The Ferrero Group’s flagship product, Nutella, has been an indulgent breakfast fixture in Europe for over 60 years. Eyeing North American breakfast tables, the Italian candy company bought cereal manufacturer W.K. Kellogg, maker of Frosted Flakes and Froot Loops, in September for $3.1 billion, the latest and most expensive purchase in Ferrero’s aggressive North American expansion. The world’s third-largest confectioner has spent over $11.4 billion on U.S. acquisitions since 2017, starting with Ferrara Candy Company (creator of Red Hots and Lemonheads) for $1.3 billion, followed by Nestlé’s U.S. confectionery business for $2.8 billion, after which it reformulated Butterfinger with higher-quality ingredients, drawing in more demand for the candy bar. It also acquired Halo Top owner Wells Enterprises [in 2022](https://www.cnbc.com/2022/12/07/ferrero-to-buy-halo-top-owner-wells-to-further-us-expansion.html) and protein snack company Power Crunch [in 2025](https://www.fooddive.com/news/ferrero-buys-protein-snack-company-power-crunch/738268/). During this time, Ferrero opened [its first innovation center](https://www.ferrero.com/us/en/news-stories/news/ferrero-opens-new-innovation-center-and-north-america-r-and-d-labs-in-chicago) outside of Europe in Chicago to [refresh the catalogues of its legacy brands](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/ferrero-looks-to-supercharge-growth-in-north-america-with-a-focus-on-innovations-powered-by-its-world-renowned-brands-302450796.html). [Industry analysts believe](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/analysis-ferrero-poised-revive-wk-180409277.html) Ferrero’s history with strict European regulators could lead it to reshape the ingredient composition of new products coming under its portfolio. Two months after Ferrero [announced](https://www.ferrero.com/int/en/news-stories/news/ferrero-to-acquire-wk-kellogg-co) it was purchasing W.K. Kellogg, the cereal giant signed [a legally binding agreement](https://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/news/releases/attorney-general-paxton-secures-historic-legal-agreement-kelloggs-remove-toxic-artificial-dyes-its) to remove artificial food colorings with the Texas attorney general, becoming one of the [first major food companies](https://www.fooddive.com/news/wk-kellogg-artificial-dyes-texas-agreement/757902/) to do so. _—Derek Rose_

### OpenTable

_Dining data_

With over 65,000 participating restaurants across more than 80 countries, OpenTable seats the most patrons—1.9 billion per year—of any dining reservation platform. OpenTable has also been booking reservations since 1998, which means the company sits on a coveted trove of customer data, from dietary restrictions to special event logs and time spent dining annually. “Those nuggets of information are critical to running a productive restaurant,” says CEO Debby Soo. “Restaurateurs want to use that \[data\] to provide more meaningful, magical hospitality moments for their guests.” However, over the last decade, a group of challengers have encroached on OpenTable’s turf—particularly Resy, which was acquired by American Express in 2019 and is known for its partnerships with buzzy restaurants. But the legacy platform has fought to stay on top. In 2024, OpenTable partnered with Visa to offer cardholders a mélange of dining benefits, including reservation slots at popular restaurants; they have also [reportedly paid restaurants to leave Resy and join OpenTable](https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/14/dining/opentable-restaurants.html). And in 2025, OpenTable teamed up with Uber to integrate restaurant booking and transportation services. “We're a connector, right?” Soo says. “But we're not the main event. We’re not the star. We are an enabler, both for restaurants and diners.” _—Derek Rose_

### Mixue Group

_Expanding budget bubble-tea chain_

Along L.A.’s Hollywood Boulevard, an unassuming takeout-only store selling boba milk tea for less than $5 and soft serve ice cream for around $1 opened its doors in December. Within weeks, Mixue, which [raised $444 million](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-03-02/bubble-tea-giant-mixue-to-debut-after-hk-s-biggest-ipo-of-year) when it [went public on the Hong Kong stock market](https://www.cnbc.com/2025/03/03/mixue-ipo-bubble-tea-giant-soars-on-hong-kong-trading-debut.html) last March, had opened multiple stores in New York City, and planned more across California. The snaking queues and rapid rollout of Mixue in the U.S. likely surprises few in Asia, where the chain’s ever-smiling “Snow King” mascot can be found in many neighborhoods—sometimes with more than one store per block. By store count, it’s the world’s biggest fast-food chain, with more than 53,000 stores worldwide across mainland China, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, and more. Mixue’s success is partly a result of its relatively [accessible franchising model](https://www.atlantis-press.com/proceedings/icemci-21/125965790) and low cost supply chain, which allowed it to expand rapidly in smaller cities and rural areas early on, fueling its growth into more urban, high-competition markets. Mixue’s [2025 revenue](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-03-24/mixue-reports-33-jump-in-profit-amid-bruising-china-price-war) was 33.56 billion yuan ($4.87 billion), up 35% from the year before. —_Miranda Jeyaretnam_

### Farmer’s Fridge

_Healthier vending machines_

While traveling for work, Luke Saunders noticed that most on-the-road food options weren’t very healthy. In 2013, he founded Farmer’s Fridge to challenge that model by making fresh, nutritious meals—including salads, bowls, wraps, and snacks—as accessible as a candy bar. But what began with one kitchen in Chicago and one refrigerated vending machine in a food court became much more: the company has since deployed over 2,000 machines in more than 20 U.S. states—across airports, hospitals, offices, and schools, plus grab-and-go products in stores like Aldi and Walmart—with more than 1,000 more planned for 2026\. (In 2025 alone, Farmer’s Fridge sold 10 million meals.) The company’s scaling is thanks in large part to logistics finesse: all meals are still made at its one Chicago facility; it largely sources directly from farms; and it coordinates daily restocks in refrigerated trucks, with its tech tracking inventory, consumer preferences at different locations, and fleet movements in real time. Salads and bowls currently run about $8-$10, varying by location. “My goal,” Saunder says, “is \[to\] make this food as inexpensive as unhealthy food.” —_Charlotte Hu_

### Wonder

_Food-delivery super app_

The food-delivery platform Wonder wants to own the dining experience from start to finish. Unlike a typical delivery app like GrubHub (which Wonder acquired in 2025), Wonder operates like an Amazon warehouse, with AI, robotics, conveyor belts, and automated scanners assembling a stream of restaurant-quality meals that are prepared in 2,500-sq.-ft. kitchens and delivered to the customer in 30 minutes. “We bring great food to places that are food deserts—places that don’t have fast casual,” says founder and CEO Marc Lore. Launched in 2018 as a food-delivery startup, Wonder now operates in 110 locations (where customers can also dine in or pick up) across the Northeast, with the goal of reaching 400 by the end of 2027\. Each offers a range of recipes, from high-end meals from star chefs (including Bobby Flay and José Andrés) to casual bites like pizza, salad bowls, or tacos. Wonder’s acquisition strategy has also been a growth lever: in 2023, the company acquired meal kit pioneer Blue Apron (users can now order one-off meal kits from Wonder without being a Blue Apron subscriber), followed by New York fast-casual restaurant Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken, food media company Tastemade, and restaurant rewards app Claim. ### Celsius Holdings

_Wellness energy drinks_

How did the [booming energy drink market](https://www.grandviewresearch.com/industry-analysis/energy-drinks-market) get its second wind? By courting health and wellness enthusiasts—and young women. While legacy players like Red Bull and Monster Energy still lead the global market in sales, challenger Celsius Holdings—whose eponymous flagship brand bills itself as a “functional” energy drink because it’s sugar-free and contains vitamins—is driving the culture. In 2025, Celsius Holdings’ biggest payoff was its $1.8 billion acquisition of Alani Nu, an energy drink marketed to Gen Z women, largely via social-media influencers. (The 12-ounce canned drink—which comes in flavors like Cosmic Stardust and Witch's Brew—is also sugar-free and contains 200 mg of caffeine, as well as B vitamins and biotin.) Alani Nu, which also makes gummies, powders, shakes, and protein bars, delivered $1 billion in net sales in 2025, bringing Celsius Holdings’ U.S. market share to 20%. Unsurprisingly, competitors want in: this March, Monster launched [FLRT](https://www.drinkflrt.com/en-us/), an energy drink brand targeting women. —_Grace Rasmus_

### Jollibee

_Fried chicken phenom_

For decades, Filipino fast-food chain Jollibee has been a leader in its home market, outselling McDonald’s and KFC. But the plucky fried-chicken joint, whose mascot is a grinning, bowtie-clad bee, is itself a global giant; it is the flagship brand of Jollibee Group, which controls 19 restaurants, including Smashburger, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Burger King Philippines, and Chowking. In February 2026, the consultancy Brand Finance ranked [Jollibee the 18th most valuable restaurant brand globally](https://brandirectory.com/reports/restaurants), but president and CEO Ernesto Tanmantiong says he aims to turn it into a top-five player. Jollibee’s global expansion may help close the gap. In 2025, the company launched its first franchising program in the U.S. and currently operates more than 100 locations across North America; Tanmantiong says the brand aims to open 350 stores across the continent in coming years, and plans to add more than 1,200 stores globally in 2026 alone. Despite the international growth, Tanmantiong says it is “absolutely vital” that the company stays true to its Filipino identity: “It is the heartbeat of our global journey.” _—Derek Rose_

### Pairwise

_Evolving agriculture_

For centuries, farmers have bred plants to make them more delicious, resilient, or abundant. North Carolina-based Pairwise, founded in 2017, created its Fulcrum platform, which includes proprietary CRISPR gene-editing tools, enzymes, and trait libraries, to enable precise genetic modifications to plants. The company’s partners now include Sun World for pitless cherries, Mars for cacao research, Enza Zaden for vegetable breeding, and nonprofits like the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture for yam production optimization. To date, Pairwise has edited 15 crops—including, in 2023, [the first CRISPR-edited leafy greens in the U.S.](https://www.wired.com/story/wired30-crispr-edited-salad-greens/), which it licensed to partner Bayer in 2024\. The company’s newest commercial product—a compact, higher-density blackberry—began field tests in 2024, started limited retail sales in Colombia in fall 2025, and will soon debut in the U.S. A seedless variety of blackberries has also entered field trials that will produce fruit later this year. “These opportunities reflect the power of gene editing to unlock a trillion-dollar agricultural market,” says CEO Tom Adams. —_Charlotte Hu_

### Fishwife

_On-trend tinned fish_

Odds are at least one person you know has gotten _really_ into gourmet tinned fish recently. Persistence Market Research estimates the global canned seafood market at $10.6 billion in 2026, with no signs of plateauing. “It was definitely in the water, which is why I started this brand,” says Becca Millstein, the co-founder and CEO of Fishwife, one of the first American companies to bring Iberian-style preserved seafood stateside. After launching as a DTC brand in 2020, Fishwife made waves with its exciting flavors (think: brined smoked salmon with Fly By Jing chili crisp), vibrant packaging, and commitment to sustainable supply chain sourcing. In January 2024, the company found success on _Shark Tank_, driving its expansion into major retailers like Target, Wegmans, and Costco. Its first cookbook dropped in 2025\. “People have been eating canned fish for hundreds of years,” Millstein says. “All we did was make a better version.” _—Jaya Saxena_

### David Protein

_Protein bar sensation_

David’s flavored protein bars, launched in September 2024, are driving America’s protein kick to the tune of $131 million in sales in its first year. The company says each bar contains 28 grams of protein and just 150 calories thanks to EPG, a plant-based fat substitute that passes through the gut largely undigested, resulting in fewer calories absorbed. Controversy has stalked the brand since its launch, however. After David acquired Epogee, EPG’s sole producer, in May 2025, three other Epogee customers filed an antitrust lawsuit, which was [dismissed in February](https://agfundernews.com/david-protein-scores-initial-victory-in-antitrust-case-over-epg-fat-replacer-plaintiffs-say-battle-isnt-over); in January, [a class action lawsuit was filed in New York](https://www.classaction.org/media/david-protein-complaint.pdf), asserting the bars contain more calories than the label indicates (the company denies the claims, adding that the lawsuit does not account for EPG’s unique properties, and the lawsuit was dismissed in March); and David’s chief science officer, the longevity influencer Peter Attia, [stepped down in February](https://x.com/PeterRahal/status/2018536070183575750) after his links to Jeffrey Epstein were made public. All the same, sales continue to grow, and CEO and co-founder Peter Rahal says, “We’re launching ice cream in May.” —_Veronique Greenwood_
