This year, TIME editors launch the **TIME100 Companies: Industry Leaders** lists, an expansion of the TIME100 Most Influential Companies issue that dives deeper into 20 sectors to look at the companies shaping their industries. These are the 10 most influential companies in finance of 2026.

### Mercado Libre

Redefining digital banking

The newest financial giant in Latin America wasn’t built by a bank. It was built by a shopping site. Mercado Libre’s fintech arm, Mercado Pago, now has [78 million](https://natlawreview.com/press-releases/mercado-libre-caps-stellar-2025-performance-45-yoy-revenue-growth-q4) monthly active users and offers digital accounts, savings, lending, insurance, and credit cards. In 2025, it generated $12.6 billion in net revenue, up 46% from a year earlier. Mercado Libre’s commerce platform still supplies the scale, with more than [120 million](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260224265595/en/Mercado-Libre-Caps-Stellar-2025-Performance-with-45-YoY-Revenue-Growth-in-Q4-as-Strategic-Investments-Accelerate-Market-Share-Gains?utm%5Fsource=chatgpt.com) annual unique buyers, but Mercado Pago is increasingly the engine of growth. Its advantage is one traditional banks lack: a long-running relationship with millions of merchants and consumers, plus the transaction data to underwrite them. CEO Ariel Szarfsztejn says the goal is to build the largest digital bank in Latin America. “Our vision is democratizing access to financial services in Latin America," says Szarfsztejn. In a region where many consumers and small businesses have long been underserved by traditional finance, Mercado Pago is making the case that the bank of the future doesn’t look like a bank at all. —_Amrita Khalid_

### Block

_The anti-bank_

Block has built something traditional banks never would: its[ Cash App Borrow](https://block.xyz/inside/block-inc-surpasses-usd200-billion-in-credit-provided-to-customers-continuing-to-address-global-lending-gaps) product lends to people most banks turn away—70% of its borrowers have FICO scores below 580—and still achieves a 97% repayment rate. Across Square, Cash App, and Afterpay, the company, founded by Jack Dorsey, now serves[ 58 million monthly active Cash App users](https://www.fathom4sight.ai/blog-articles/block-passes-200b-in-credit-using-real-time-underwriting) and has extended more than[ $200 billion in cumulative credit](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260120125532/en/Block-Inc.-Surpasses-$200-Billion-in-Credit-Provided-to-Customers-Continuing-to-Address-Global-Lending-Gaps). Its Cash App Score is piloting as a FICO alternative, using transaction data to assess creditworthiness for people the traditional system ignores. That momentum made what happened in February all the more striking: Dorsey[ cut 4,000 employees—40% of the company](https://edition.cnn.com/2026/02/26/business/block-layoffs-ai-jack-dorsey)—saying AI tools had made a smaller workforce possible. The business wasn't struggling;[ Q4 gross profit hit $2.87 billion, up 26%](https://247wallst.com/investing/2026/03/12/dorsey-predicts-mass-ai-driven-layoffs-across-tech-industry/). Dorsey framed the cuts as the future arriving early.[ Critics called it AI washing](https://om.co/2026/02/28/block-tackle-job-cuts-the-ai-narrative/). Either way, Block's underlying thesis remains: that a payments company sitting on years of transaction data can out-lend a bank—and now, Dorsey is arguing, it can do it with half the people. —_Amrita Khalid_

### PalmPay

_Mobile-wallet winner_

Even in Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy and a major fintech market, more than a third of adults still [lack a financial account](https://digitalfinance.worldbank.org/country/nigeria) of any kind. Hong Kong-based PalmPay has built one of Nigeria’s leading mobile-money platforms by reaching many of the people traditional banking has long left out. The company now has more than [35 million registered users](https://techcrunch.com/2025/06/05/profitable-african-fintech-palmpay-is-in-talks-to-raise-as-much-as-100m/). Part of that growth comes from an unusually powerful distribution advantage: PalmPay comes preinstalled on select devices made by [Transsion](https://time.com/collections/time100-companies-2024/6979956/transsion/), the Chinese smartphone manufacturer whose phone Tecno, Infinix, and Itel brands dominate much of the African market. PalmPay has expanded beyond payments into a broader suite of financial services, including credit, bill pay, insurance, and—most recently—[debit cards](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/emerging-markets-focused-fintech-platform-palmpay-unveils-new-debit-card-in-nigeria-with-verve-302430089.html) that let customers spend in stores and withdraw cash at ATMs. The company became profitable in 2025 and aims to raise up to $100 million to expand further in Nigeria and into other markets in Africa and Asia. —_Joe Mullich_

### BlackRock

_$14 trillion and still shopping_

The world’s largest money manager ended 2025 with more than $14 trillion in assets under management, after full-year revenue climbed 19% to $24.2 billion. But the numbers only tell part of the story. Under CEO Larry Fink, BlackRock has been pushing beyond its dominance in public markets into private credit and infrastructure, sectors buoyed by companies staying private longer and mushrooming demand for AI data centers, cell towers, and fiber networks. Last summer, the firm acquired [HPS Investment Partners for $12 billion](https://www.blackrock.com/corporate/newsroom/press-releases/article/corporate-one/press-releases/blackrock-acquires-hps-investment-partners), dramatically expanding its private-credit footprint and positioning itself as a serious competitor in direct lending almost overnight. Its 2024 purchase of Global Infrastructure Partners added stakes in airports and energy projects worldwide. Meanwhile BlackRock’s U.S.-listed Bitcoin ETF became the fastest ETF in history to reach $70 billion in assets. “We’re now a scale operator across public and private markets and technology,” Fink wrote in his [annual letter](https://www.blackrock.com/corporate/investor-relations/larry-fink-annual-chairmans-letter#section-3-blackrocks-work-in-2025-and-the-road-ahead). But the expansion has brought new scrutiny. In March, BlackRock capped withdrawals from its $26 billion HPS private-credit fund after redemption requests exceeded quarterly limits, underscoring liquidity concerns across the fast-growing $1.8 trillion private-credit market. Fink is also navigating a political backlash over ESG investing after withdrawing from the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative while facing an antitrust lawsuit from 11 Republican state attorneys general over the firm’s climate-related investment strategies. _—Amrita Khalid_

### Ant Group

_China’s fintech giant_

After a sweeping regulatory overhaul, Chinese finance conglomerate Ant Group has spent the past year expanding globally. Ant International, the group's global unit, built Alipay+ into a vast cross-border digital wallet network spanning more than 100 markets across Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East; and generated an estimated $3.7 billion in revenue in 2025, up roughly 25% year over year. But the bigger shift has been Ant's strategic repositioning as an AI-first company, with R&D spending hitting a record $3.26 billion in 2024\. Ant has rolled out an AI-powered “virtual CFO,” [Antom Copilot](https://www.antom.com/news/detail/ant-international-upgrades-antom-copilot-to-advance-domain-specific-agentic-ai-to-solve-global-payment-complexity/), to help small and medium businesses with payment integration, onboarding, risk management, and chargeback resolution. Last year, Ant also debuted [AQ](https://www.cnbc.com/2025/06/26/chinas-ant-launches-ai-powered-health-care-app-eyes-global-expansion.html), an AI healthcare app that lets users ask medical questions of more than 5,000 hospitals and nearly 1 million doctors, and which surpassed 100 million users in its first 10 months. "We are passionate about using frontier technology to support \[small and medium businesses\] and the use of AI will really uplift inclusion," Ant Group Chairman [Eric Jing said](https://www.ant-intl.com/en/news/detail/?id=ant-group-chairman-eric-jing-outlines-strategy-for-inclusive-ai-collaboration-on-tokenised-settlement&tag=AI) at the Singapore FinTech Festival in November. _—Charlie Campbell_

### Nubank

_Latin America’s digital bank moves north_

As fintech's easy-growth era ends, Nu—also known as Nubank—is trying to prove a digital bank can scale, stay profitable, and expand into heavily regulated markets. The app-first platform offers checking, payments, cards, and lending across Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. Nu ended 2025 with 131 million customers—including 62% of Brazil's adult population—83% of whom actively use the platform, generating $16.3 billion in annual revenue. It also launched more than 100 new products and features. "We see this as an inflection year," says CEO and co-founder David Vélez. “The year we begin transitioning from a Latin American leader to a global digital banking platform." The next hurdle to overcome: regulation. Nu received [conditional U.S. national bank charter approval](https://international.nubank.com.br/company/nu-secures-approval-to-establish-us-national-bank/) in January 2026 and is preparing for a full bank launch in [Mexico](https://international.nubank.com.br/company/nu-mexicos-total-investments-expected-to-reach-us4-2-billion-by-2030-as-banking-launch-approaches/) this year. —_Chris Stokel-Walker_

### Kalshi

_Betting on everything_

A year ago, Kalshi was a curiosity. Today the prediction-market exchange is valued at [$22 billion](https://coincentral.com/kalshi-raises-over-1-billion-as-valuation-hits-22-billion-level/), has more than [5 million users](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/kalshi-prediction-markets-stealing-market-160600765.html?guccounter=1), and sits at the center of a legal fight that could decide whether betting on elections, hurricanes, or inflation counts as finance—or if it’s gambling in a nicer suit. Founded in 2018, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)-regulated platform lets users buy and sell contracts tied to real-world outcomes, from Federal Reserve decisions to NFL games. "We wanted to build a marketplace where people can express their opinion and trade on any event," says co-founder and CEO Tarek Mansour. The idea has spread quickly: Kalshi generated $263.5 million in fee revenue in 2025, and outlets including CNN and CNBC started publishing its probability data alongside polls and expert forecasts. In February 2026, a [Federal Reserve working paper](https://www.federalreserve.gov/econres/feds/kalshi-and-the-rise-of-macro-markets.htm) found the platform matched or outperformed traditional Wall Street tools on indicators including inflation and interest rates. But roughly [89% of Kalshi's revenue comes from sports contracts](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/kalshi-fee-revenue-2025-263-145801350.html), and several U.S. states have sued the company for allegedly operating an unlicensed gambling business. In March, Kalshi became the first prediction market to face [criminal charges](https://www.cnn.com/2026/03/17/politics/arizona-charges-prediction-market-kalshi) when Arizona’s attorney general accused it of running an illegal gambling operation in violation of state law. Days later, Senators Adam Schiff and John Curtis introduced [bipartisan legislation](https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/sports-betting-gambling-prediction-market-kalshi-polymarket-ban-senate-rcna264734) that would ban CFTC-registered platforms from listing contracts that resemble a sports bet or a casino-style game. _—Alex Stone_

### Chime

_Banking for the masses_

Chime Financial may not have the name recognition of Chase or Bank of America, but in the second half of last year, Chime was the top destination for new checking-account openings in the U.S., validating the approach Chime pioneered more than a decade ago: cater to the 200 million Americans making under $100,000 a year—a demographic traditional banks long dismissed as unprofitable—with no overdraft fees, no paycheck delays, and no minimum balances. "There's a generational shift underway in how Americans choose to bank," says co-founder and CEO Chris Britt. "We've helped members avoid billions in fees, build their credit, and access their pay when they need it most." The strategy has paid off. In June, Chime went public in one of the largest fintech IPOs in recent years, raising $864 million at an $11.6 billion valuation. [Its 9.5 million customers helped drive 2025 revenue up 31% to $2.2 billion.](https://markets.financialcontent.com/stocks/article/bizwire-2026-2-25-chime-reports-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-2025-financial-results) Perhaps more telling: internal surveys found that 75% of those customers expect to stay with Chime for life—an unusually high figure in an industry where loyalty is hard won. —_Joe Mullich_

### Circle Internet Group

_Next-gen finance giant_

When Circle—the company behind USDC, a widely used dollar-backed digital currency—went public in June 2025, demand for shares was overwhelming. “The book was 25 times oversubscribed, at $25 billion of demand, which was just tremendous,” says CEO and founder Jeremy Allaire. It was a landmark moment for a company that has spent more than a decade building infrastructure for digital money—and specifically for USDC, a dollar-backed stablecoin now central to the crypto payments ecosystem. Circle got a major tailwind in July when President Trump signed the GENIUS Act into law, creating the first federal regulatory framework for stablecoins and giving USDC a clearer path to mainstream adoption. Now the company is moving beyond issuance: a new institutional platform called [Arc](https://www.circle.com/pressroom/circle-launches-arc-public-testnet) aims to let partners move money, settle trades, and build financial products using stablecoins as the underlying currency. Allaire's bet is that dollar-backed digital currencies—currently a $300 billion market—will eventually be measured in the trillions. —_Chris Stokel-Walker_

### Mastercard

_Securing AI shopping_

Mastercard has spent decades making humans’ credit card payments secure. Now it’s doing the same for purchases made by machines. As AI agents move from suggesting products to buying them on a users’ behalf, the payments giant—which processed $10.6 trillion of payments last year—is racing to ensure those orders are as trustworthy as the ones you place yourself. Its [Agent Pay](https://www.mastercard.com/global/en/news-and-trends/press/2025/april/mastercard-unveils-agent-pay-pioneering-agentic-payments-technology-to-power-commerce-in-the-age-of-ai.html) program, launched in April 2025, requires AI agents to be registered and verified before they can spend your money, extending the fraud protections and dispute rights of card payments to purchases made inside AI assistants. “It’s incredibly important that we get this right, because it only takes a few bad stories for the whole house of cards to start collapsing,” says chief product officer Jorn Lambert. (Translation: no one wants an agent going on a shopping spree with their Mastercard.)
