### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. Through Project Managers Without Borders, PMI connects chapters and volunteers with nonprofits and NGOs that need project management expertise to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of social initiatives. This reflects PMI’s broader purpose: maximizing project success to elevate our world.

This year, TIME editors launch the **TIME100 Companies: Industry Leaders** lists, an expansion of the TIME100 Most Influential Companies issue that dives deeper into 20 sectors to look at the companies shaping their industries. These are the 10 most influential companies in fashion and beauty of 2026.

### Schiaparelli

_Making a statement_

Schiaparelli’s revival seemed improbable. Creative director Daniel Roseberry, with a taste for the gilded and the avant-garde, took over in 2019 just before the pandemic catalyzed a craze for beige cashmere. And the French luxury fashion house, founded in 1927, was also known to industry diehards but had never generated the viral moments necessary to enter the zeitgeist. Things changed in 2021, when Bella Hadid walked the Cannes Film Festival carpet wearing Schiaparelli haute couture you couldn’t unsee: a plunging black scoop-neck gown with a breastplate on a gold chain resembling the bronchial trees of human lungs. More looks continued to cut through the noise, including the actor Sandra Hüller’s 2024 Oscars gown with an exaggerated architectural neckline and padlock at the bust, and a Spring 2026 couture collection that included ornate [scorpion stingers](https://schiaparelli.com/en/pages/looks/hc-printemps-ete-2026-look-10) arching dramatically over models’ heads. Excitement around the brand coincided with a cultural pivot toward opulence, and helped generate serious business: Very Important Clients—industry parlance for the 2% of shoppers who comprise around 40% of all luxury fashion sales—became hungry for their own piece of Schiaparelli’s wearable art (gowns can run $20,000 and up). The brand is now [among](https://www.elle.com/uk/fashion/a69726793/daniel-roseberry-schiaparelli-profile/) the five top-selling at Harrods, which will double its space on the shop floor this summer. Roseberry [has said](https://www.roemagazine.com/post/how-schiaparelli-silenced-paris-daniel-roseberry-rewriting-reality?utm%5Fsource=chatgpt.com) going to a Schiaparelli show should “feel like going to a museum.” And that’s where his work has ended up: a retrospective tracing the history of the house from its earliest days is on view at the V&A in London through November 8\. —_Amy Odell_

### Byoma

_Beauty phenom_

Byoma is built around a simple idea: great skin starts with a healthy skin barrier. Launched in 2022, the Glasgow-based brand tests product formulas designed to strengthen the skin’s foundation rather than chase quick fixes, and offers it at an affordable price point. The growing interest in skin barrier health has fueled Byoma’s rapid rise—[over $500 million in sales](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/yellow-wood-partners-announces-sale-of-their-majority-stake-in-skincare-brand-byoma-302551156.html) since its inception—and massive popularity among Gen Z consumers, signaling a wider shift in the skincare industry away from complex routines focused on exfoliation towards more nourishing ingredients like ceramides, peptides, and prebiotics. To date, Byoma has released 35 products, more than 75 external clinical trials, and has products at major retailers including Ulta Beauty, Target, Amazon, Boots, and most recently, [Sephora](https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/byoma-expands-retail-footprint-in-canada-with-launch-in-sephora-stores-808606923.html). Its Hydrating Milky Toner sold more than 2 million units in just one year. Now available throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia, and backed by a recent majority investment from the Bansk Group, Byoma is entering its next phase of expansion. “Our recent Bio-Collagen Radiance Mask is an example of where we’re heading: immediate visible results, barrier-conscious formulation, and format innovation that makes sense for modern routines,” says CEO Marc Elrick. _—Nina Derwin_

### Ralph Lauren

_Timeless style_

Few American fashion brands have bridged generations like [Ralph Lauren](https://time.com/collection/100-most-influential-people/2026/ralph-lauren/). Nearly six decades after its founding, the label is experiencing a cultural resurgence fueled in part by renewed interest in preppy style and Gen Z’s discovery of its classic Americana aesthetic through social media. [Searches for vintage Ralph Lauren home décor surged 250%](https://www.wsj.com/business/retail/ralph-lauren-was-always-cool-now-gen-z-knows-why-2953032c) on eBay during the 2025 holiday season. “We don’t change the story—we change the way we connect,” says [David Lauren](https://time.com/7314544/david-lauren-ralph-lauren-interview/), son of Ralph and chief innovation and branding officer. At the same time, the company has regained financial momentum under CEO Patrice Louvet. Since taking the helm in 2017, Louvet has worked to reposition it as a modern luxury house, scaling back distribution in discount-focused department stores and investing more heavily in marketing and digital engagement—moves that have helped push revenue to [$7.1 billion in 2025](https://investor.ralphlauren.com/news-releases/news-release-details/ralph-lauren-reports-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-fiscal-2025), with the highest profit margin in over a decade. In 2025, Ralph Lauren received the CFDA American Womenswear Designer of the Year award, underscoring the brand’s lasting power and influence. “We’re not a fashion company,” says David. “We’re about living.” —_Nina Derwin_

### Skims

_Shaping fashion_

Skims chief creative officer Kim Kardashian knew that it was only a matter of time before the shapewear and underwearbrand she co-foundedin 2019with husband-and-wife-team Jens and Emma Grede would get into activewear. “Anything that’s close to the body, anything that shapes,” she says, “we wanted to be in that conversation.” True to that mission, the brand has redefined casualwear trends with its neutral, form-fitting styles. Last September, Skims partnered with Nike to launch NikeSkims, an athletic apparel and footwear line that combines “the best in Nike innovation with the more feminine styles and simplicity” that Skims is known for, Kardashian says, building on a previous skiwear collaboration with The North Face, with which they launched a second collection in December 2025 after selling out the first in 2024\. In November, Skims reportedly raised $225 million in funding to grow its global presence, valuing it at $5 billion. Throughout 2025, Skims opened 16 additional stores across the U.S., and its first in Mexico City and Dubai, with London planned for summer 2026; despite the growth of e-commerce, 80% of consumers still do their shopping in physical stores, according to Deloitte. “Shopping for fashion is an emotional experience and it’s a tactile one,” says Skims CEO Jens Grede. “We want to be in the 100% business…Not just the 20% business.” —_Shannon Carlin_

### SharkNinja Beauty

_Beauty-tech breakthrough_

Long known for its home appliances, SharkNinja has quietly become a force in beauty technology. In 2025, just four years after launching, [Shark Beauty was named the number one skincare facial device brand](https://ir.sharkninja.com/news/news-details/2025/Shark-Beauty-Skyrockets-to-1-Skincare-Facial-Devices-Brand-in-the-U-S-1/default.aspx) in the U.S. by market-research firm Circana, with its CryoGlow LED face mask ranking as the top-selling device in the country. In October, the company’s Facial ProGlow system, positioned as an at-home alternative to the HydraFacial, amassed a 25,000-person waitlist before selling out in just three hours; the following month, Shark Beauty launched at Walmart, widening its retail footprint and underscoring its mass-market ambitions. The brand is off to a running start in 2026, with the February launch of its SilkiPro Straight, a wet-to-dry hair straightener with an integrated heat sensor that measures temperature 1,000 times per second to help prevent damage. _—Nina Derwin_

### L’Oréal Groupe

_Collecting scents_

As fragrance became [the fastest growing category](https://www.circana.com/post/us-beauty-industry-sales-grow-for-the-fourth-consecutive-year-circana-reports) in the luxury beauty industry, driven by [Gen-Z and men](https://www.uschamber.com/co/good-company/launch-pad/gen-z-and-men-fragrance-boom), beauty giant L’Oréal went on a shopping spree, netting in a €4 billion acquisition of Kering Beauté—the biggest in its history—bringing House of Creed onboard and securing long-term beauty and fragrance licenses with brands including Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, and eventually Gucci once its agreement with competitor Coty expires. This follows L’Oréal’s beauty agreement with Jacquemus and smaller investments in niche high-end perfume brands Beijing-based To Summer, Seoul-based Borntostandout, and Oman-based Amouage in 2024 and 2025\. Last year, it also debuted its first fragrance in partnership with Miu Miu, which it signed over from Coty in 2024\. L’Oréal, which reported more than €44 billion in annual sales in 2025, strengthened its position across the beauty market with additional acquisitions of buzzy, skin and hair-care brands, including Medik8 and Color Wow, and an annual investment of more than €1.3 billion in [research](https://time.com/collections/best-inventions-2025/7318255/loreal-groupe-melasyl/) [and innovation](https://time.com/collections/best-inventions-2025/7318251/loreal-airlight-pro/). As Blanca Juti, chief corporate affairs and engagement officer of L’Oréal Groupe, puts it, the company aims to “do only beauty but all of beauty.” —_Nina Derwin_

### Uniqlo

_Strength in simplicity_

Amid the morass of American and European high street fashion brands, one name stands out: Uniqlo, the proudly Japanese apparel colossus helmed by the irrepressible [Tadashi Yanai](https://time.com/collections/time100-leadership-series/6333659/tadashi-yanai-uniqlo-japan-profile/). Not only has Uniqlo’s success made Yanai Japan’s richest man, but it’s ripped up shibboleths of what constitutes couture, offering high-tech materials and dapper stylings at a low price point. The brand counts Oscar-winner [Cate Blanchett](https://time.com/collections/women-of-the-year/6259177/cate-blanchett-2/) and tennis legend Roger Federer as ambassadors and collaborates with industry leaders like Dior’s [Jonathan Anderson](https://time.com/collections/100-most-influential-people-2024/6964616/jonathan-anderson/). In 2025, Uniqlo drove its parent company, Fast Retailing, to a fourth consecutive year of record profits, soaring 13.6% year-on-year to $3.5 billion. The company continues to expand in key markets, including the U.K. and India, and aims to reach 200 North American stores by 2027\. “Our vision is to become the world’s number one brand,” Yanai says, “providing simple, high-quality, everyday clothing with a sense of beauty and functionality.” _—Charlie Campbell_

### N8iv Beauty

_Skincare from Indigenous knowledge_

Rooted in traditional plant medicine, N8iv Beauty brings Indigenous knowledge into a global skincare industry long forged in a lab. Founded in 2022 by Ruth-Ann Thorn, an enrolled member of the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians, in California, the brand centers its formulations around acorn oil, an ingredient traditionally prized for its healing properties, sustainably sourced from tribal land. “In an industry saturated with mass-produced products, we stand out as a brand dedicated to sharing our rich cultural legacy with the world,” says Thorn. N8iv Beauty is the first Indigenous American-owned skincare brand to bring products to the mainstream market nationally; in 2025, the company won an Allure Best of Beauty Award for its exfoliator and became the first Indigenous beauty brand featured at Coachella. This year, N8iv is launching at Nordstrom, entering over 100 Ritz-Carlton spas, and participating in Sephora’s minority inclusion cohort. Five percent of its sales support the MMIW Movement, advocating for missing and murdered Indigenous women. _—Nina Derwin_

### Rhode

_Beauty boom_

Hailey Bieber’s beauty brand, Rhode, was just three years old, offering 10 products only available through direct-to-consumer purchasing, when it sold for a whopping $1 billion in 2025\. E.l.f Beauty announced plans to acquire the high-growth brand last May in a deal that made headlines across the industry—then Rhode quickly went on to make the biggest debuts ever at Sephora in North America and the U.K. Bieber and her co-founders, Michael D. Ratner and Lauren Ratner, created a winning strategy for the brand even before its products launched in 2022: they built up her voice on YouTube as a subject-matter expert on skincare, and created an engaged community that seamlessly converted into a customer base. “We focus on inviting you into this whole entire world that really fits into your lifestyle,” Bieber says. “And I think that goes so far beyond skin care.” —_Lucy Feldman_

### APR

_Global K-beauty phenom_

APR is leading the next wave of K-beauty growth worldwide. Founded in 2014 by CEO Kim Byung-hoon with less than $3,500 in startup capital, the Seoul-based company [overtook legacy competitor AmorePacific](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-08-06/korean-beauty-upstart-set-to-top-industry-giant-s-market-value) in August to become the country’s largest beauty company by market cap. In 2025, APR [reported more than $1 billion in annual revenue](https://apr-in.aprd.io/ir/APR%5FEarnings%20Release%5F4Q25%5FENG%5FvF.pdf), with an overseas revenue share of 80% (up from 55% in 2024). Driving APR’s swift rise internationally—particularly in the U.S.—is its Medicube brand, known for its innovative skincare products and devices that dominate on social-media platforms like TikTok, where hundreds of thousands of posts—from micro-influencers to heavy-hitters like [Alix Earle](https://time.com/collections/time100-creators-2025/7299095/alix-earle/), Hailey Bieber, and Kylie Jenner—endorse its products. Last year, Medicube became the top-selling beauty brand on Amazon during its 2025 Prime Day event, and has since expanded its U.S. presence into more than 1,400 Ulta Beauty stores. In February 2026, Medicube [expanded into the haircare category](https://www.nbcnews.com/select/shopping/medicube-hair-care-launch-rcna261719) with a new product line designed to promote scalp health. —_Nina Derwin_
