Apr 28, 2026 1:05 PM UTC

This year, TIME editors launch the **TIME100 Companies: Industry Leaders** lists, an expansion of the TIME100 Most Influential Companies issue that dives deeper into 20 sectors to look at the companies shaping their industries. These are the 10 most influential companies in entertainment of 2026.

### Apple

_Streaming quality over quantity_

It may seem odd for one of the world’s most valuable tech companies to be influencing the entertainment industry, but that’s where Apple TV’s success has steered the computer giant. Apple TV debuted in 2019 with just ahandful of original, high-budget TV shows, drawing questions from critics about the viability of its new subscription streaming service. In 2025, its quality over quantity approach resulted in a record-breaking year for the service. At last year’s Emmys, Apple TV won 22 awards, led by Ben Stiller’s _Severance_ and Seth Rogen’s _The Studio,_ whichbecame the most awarded comedy in Emmy history. Apple TV original _F1: The Movie_ became the highest-grossing sports movie of all time—and landed four nominations at the 2026 Academy Awards, winning Best Sound. In October, Apple TV became the exclusive streamer of Formula 1 in the U.S., growing its live sports programming, and partnered with Peacock for its first streaming bundle, marking the increased cable-ification of streaming. Last December, Apple TV reported its highest monthly engagement, with total hours viewed up 36% from the previous year, thanks in part to the debut of Vince Gilligan’s new show, _Pluribus,_ the streamer’s most viewed series to date. “Customers have very high expectations of” the Apple brand, says Eddy Cue, Apple’s SVP of Services and Health, and Apple TV’s goal is to continue telling “stories that make people think, laugh, and understand humans better.” _—Shannon Carlin_

### Beast Industries

_From antics to empire_

The company started by online creator MrBeast—real name Jimmy Donaldson, 27—is growing up. While the videos spectacles created by Donaldson, involving unique challenges and huge crash prizes, can still draw hundreds of millions of views on YouTube and remain at the heart of the operation, Donaldson has leveraged his fame to launch a TV show (_Beast Games_ premiered as the most-watched unscripted show on Amazon Prime Video and is entering its third season); enter the theme park and financial services businesses; and you can expect to see a MrBeast mobile phone plan in the near future. Donaldson has hired an experienced manager, former Shutterfly CEO Jeff Housenbold, to lead and grow the business: Housenbold has helped cut more than $100 million in operating expenses over the past 14 months, while increasing top-line revenue growth by 50% over a two-year period. Quite simply, Beast Industries could be building the most formidable new media empire to emerge this decade and beyond. —_Sean Gregory_

### Neon

_Bringing foreign films stateside_

It’s one thing to make movies audiences want to see; it’s another for a studio to generate industry excitement verging on hysteria around a roster of foreign films, which are notoriously tricky to market in the U.S. But arthouse incubator Neon, founded in 2017 by CEO Tom Quinn and Tim League, has done exactly that. In 2020, Neon won its first Best Picture Oscar for Bong Joon Ho’s _Parasite_, which became the first non-English language film to win the top prize; at this year’s Golden Globes in January, Neon earned more nominations than any other studio with a suite of foreign, largely non-English-language films, including _Sentimental Value_ (Norway), _It Was Just an Accident_ (Iran), _The Secret Agent_ (Brazil), _No Other Choice_ (South Korea), and _Sirāt_ (Spain and France). Quinn credits Neon’s interest in working with foreign directors in part to his growing up overseas, but ultimately believes in film’s ability to capture audiences with work that both entertains and communicates feelings that resonate across cultures. “My favorite thing Céline Sciamma ever said is: ‘If your art isn't political, is it truly art?’” says Quinn, referring to the French screenwriter and director whose films _Portrait of a Lady on Fire_ and _Petite Maman_ [were released by Neon in North America](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/neon-takes-celine-sciammas-portrait-of-a-lady-on-fire-follow-up-for-north-america-4142902/). “It's not always true, but I think it's a very consistent theme across most of our movies.” —_Rachel Brodsky_

### Nex

_Safer gaming_

Nex Playground—a motion-activated console that connects to a TV and resembles a Rubik’s cube—is upsetting the gaming industry. Launched in December 2023, the all-ages device does not use controllers or wearables and is free of ads, algorithms, micro-transactions, and chat features. For an $89 annual fee, users can access more than 45 games—all of which are non-violent and designed to inspire active play—that are updated monthly and include everything from sports and exercise to beloved IP like Bluey and Barbie. Nex Playground is also unusually safe for kids and the privacy-minded, as its built-in camera does not store or send video data to the cloud. Parents have responded with remarkable enthusiasm. In 2024, the console sold 150,000 units after being stocked by Walmart, Target, and BestBuy; in 2025, that number rose to about 800,000, even [outselling Xbox during Black Friday week](https://www.theverge.com/gadgets/841831/nex-playground-console-deal-holiday-sale). Looking ahead, Nex aims to expand the Playground’s reach beyond the U.S. and Canada and expects to sell 1 million units in the first half of 2026\. “We always want to give more than we take,” says CEO David Lee. “You can have great changes with technology, but the fundamental human needs are the same,” adding that kids of every generation will always want to “move, connect, grow, and have fun.” —_Rachel Brodsky_

### YouTube

_Media mogul_

Just over two decades ago, YouTube was a small vine in the media world, pushing through the cracks of the so-called information superhighway. A few lo-res clips, a handful of creators, the occasional eye-catching bloom. But the vine had an interesting trait: it grew towards attention, wrapping itself around music, comedy, sports, politics, tutorials, news, children’s programming—whatever held people’s gaze. Viewers became creators. Creators became communities. The vine became a thicket. Today, YouTube isn’t just climbing alongside traditional media—it’s overtaking it. Television, once mighty and freestanding, is now so intertwined with YouTube that it’s not clear who’s propping up whom. In February, the company [commanded 12.7% of all television viewing time in the U.S.](https://www.nielsen.com/news-center/2026/winter-olympics-super-bowl-power-nbcu-versant-to-gold-medal-performance-in-nielsens-february-gauge-reports/), according to Nielsen; and YouTube TV is predicted to [become the largest pay-TV operator](https://omdia.tech.informa.com/pr/2025/dec/omdia-youtube-tv-on-track-to-become-the-largest-us-pay-tv-operator-by-2027) in the U.S. by 2027\. At the same time, the platform’s prevalence has prompted concerns around its potentially negative effects, particularly on young people. Some countries have begun to limit its reach and in a landmark March 2026 verdict, a jury in California [found YouTube (and Meta) negligent](https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/25/technology/social-media-trial-verdict.html) for designing addictive features that damaged a young woman's mental health. Despite the pushback, it’s likely YouTube will find a way to keep growing, as vines do. CEO Neal Mohan told TIME in December that his working theory is that "what happens in the world happens on YouTube. And the reverse is also true, which is what's happening on YouTube actually plays out in the real world, as well." —_Belinda Luscombe_

### Tubi

_Free entertainment_

Consumers are tired of paying for an increasing collection of streaming services, and Tubi is leading them down a new path. The Fox-owned, San Francisco-based company has leveled up into a major streaming player with its ad-supported, no-fee, no-subscriptionmodel. Since launching in 2014, Tubi has built a robust library of more than 300,000 movies and TV episodes, plus 400 scripted and unscripted Tubi Originals that cater to its millennial and Gen Z-leaning audience. (The company also launched Tubi For Creators, an initiative to bring creator-led stories to the platform, in June 2025, and its Creatorverse Incubator, a partnership with TikTok, this year.) In May 2025, Tubireached a record 100 million monthly active users and 1 billion hours streamed per month. By October, the company had recorded its first profitable quarter, and in January, Nielsen reported Tubi accounted for [2.1% of total TV viewing minutes](https://www.nielsen.com/news-center/2026/tv-viewing-hits-12-month-high-in-nielsens-january-report-of-the-gauge/), ahead of Peacock and Warner Bros. Discovery. “You have to have a vision of the future—you have to believe in it with conviction,” says CEO Anjali Sud. “And we do.” —_Shannon Carlin_

### Spotify

_Podcast powerhouse_

Spotify has come a long way from its roots as an on-demand music streaming platform. Over the last decade, it has become a veritable podcast behemoth, with top talent like Joe Rogan and Amy Poehler, and [more than 1 billion podcast listeners since 2019](https://newsroom.spotify.com/2024-12-04/our-wrapped-for-creators-experience-toasts-2024-podcast-listening/). Last year, the company doubled down on its investment in video podcasting with the [launch of the Spotify Partner Program](https://newsroom.spotify.com/2026-01-08/spotify-partner-program-creator-success-stories/), which enables video podcasters to monetize more easily on the platform (via things like audience-driven payouts from Spotify Premium video engagement, as well as ad monetization on Spotify Free and other listening platforms).“We win when creators win,” says Maya Prohovnik, VP of podcast product. In the program’s first year, monthly video podcast consumption on the platform increased by more than 90%, according to the company, with almost 400 million users streaming a video podcast on the platform in 2025 (up 54% from 2024). The increased interest in Spotify’s video podcasts has helped hundreds of creators earn more than $10,000 within a month of enrolling in the Partner Program, with top earners surpassing six figures. (In January, Spotify also [announced](https://newsroom.spotify.com/2026-01-07/spotify-partner-program-updates/) it was expanding the program’s eligibility criteria, making it easier for less established creators—and those who use independent hosting platforms—toreap the benefits.)And last October, Spotify Studios and _The Ringer_—the website and podcasting network founded by Bill Simmons that Spotify acquired in 2020—[struck adeal with Netflix](https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/14/spotify-ringer-netflix-video-podcasts.html) to bring select podcasts to the streaming platform.Prohovnik believes the deal “legitimizes” the growing medium by presenting video podcasts “right next to Hollywood-produced shows and movies.” It doesn’t hurt, she says, that more and more celebrities are choosing to get in the podcast studio. In January, Amy Poehler's chart-topping _Good Hang with Amy Poehler,_ producedin collaboration with Spotify and The Ringer, won the first-ever Golden Globe for Best Podcast. —_Shannon Carlin_

### Netflix

_Streaming behemoth_

At the end of 2025, Netflix was poised to complete a blockbuster deal: [acquiring a major Hollywood studio](https://time.com/7338996/netflix-warner-bros-deal-acquisition-hbo-streaming/). But in February, in a shocking reversal, the streaming giant walked away from its $82.7 billion bid to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery after [refusing to counter Paramount Skydance’s revised offer of $111 billion](https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/26/business/warner-bros-discovery-paramount-deal-netflix.html). “We thought of Warner as a really exciting opportunity,” says Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters. “But just like in all the other cases, we size the opportunity based on the value back to our members in the business—and when someone's willing to go with a number that's bigger than that value to us, we say, ‘Great, good luck, and Godspeed.” The move—which resulted in a $2.8 billion [termination fee from Paramount](https://time.com/7381536/paramount-warner-netflix-larry-david-ellison-donald-trump-democrats-reactions/)—was hardly an indication of weakness: in 2025, Netflix delivered [$45.2 billion in revenue](https://s22.q4cdn.com/959853165/files/doc%5Ffinancials/2025/q4/FINAL-Q4-25-Shareholder-Letter.pdf) (up 16% from 2024) and surpassed 325 million global paid subscribers. In 2026, that number will likely continue to grow as the company doubles down on investing in live sports and events, partnerships with prominent podcasters and content creators, games, and AI-powered discovery, search, advertising, and creation tools—including, in March, an [acquisition](https://variety.com/2026/film/news/netflix-acquires-ben-affleck-ai-filmmaking-startup-interpositive-1236679498/) of Ben Affleck's AI filmmaking company InterPositive. Peters says Netflix’s ability to play in both the creative and tech spaces is what gives the company its edge. “They can be as good as us in one,” he says of competitors. “But being as good in both is tough.” _—Avery Stone_

### Warner Music Group

_Protecting artists in the AI era_

At the turn of the millennium, the music industry reckoned with vast technological change, as listeners began illegally downloading the records they once visited stores to purchase. A similar threat looms today around generative AI, which many artists and industry workers worry will devalue the output of human-made music, among other copyright concerns. Warner Music Group—which owns a robust portfolio of labels, including Atlantic, Parlophone, and Warner Records, plus the publishing arm Warner Chappell Music—aims to learn from the past. Instead of boycotting the new tech, CEO Robert Kyncl says WMG is on a mission to shape it. “AI is a fast-growing phenomenon,” Kyncl says. “It's really important that companies like us stand up for artists and songwriters—do it early, and do it together with AI companies.” To that end, WMG is taking a three-pronged approach: lobbying for the [NO FAKES Act](https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/1367), a bipartisan U.S. federal bill which would protect the voice and likeness of all individuals from unauthorized, computer-generated re-creations; [forging partnerships](https://www.wmg.com/news/warner-music-group-and-suno-forge-groundbreaking-partnership) with leading AI music companies, including Suno, Udio, and Klay, to ensure that AI tools are trained on licensed music; and installing [non-negotiable clauses](https://www.wmg.com/news/growing-the-value-of-music-for-artists-and-songwriters) in each deal, including that artists and songwriters will have a choice to opt in or out of any use of their name, image, likeness, or voice in AI-generated songs. (On the marketing side, WMG is also using AI to boost artist discovery and fan engagement.) “You have to have to care about the industry as a whole,” Kyncl says. “That's why we do it.” —_Rachel Brodsky_

### Cosm

_Theaters built for live sports_

At a moment when movie theater chains like AMC are leaning into live sports, Cosm has raised the bar with domed immersive theaters designed specifically for the format. In 2020, the Los Angeles-based tech company—now [valued at over $1 billion](https://www.reuters.com/technology/cosm-valued-1-billion-it-raises-funds-expand-immersive-live-entertainment-2024-07-31/)—acquired planetarium pioneer Evans & Sutherland and virtual reality platform LiveLike VR. “The planetarium is the first immersive experience ever created,” says Cosm CEO Jeb Terry, adding that the company aims to apply the same premise to live sports and entertainment. In 2024, Cosm opened its first venues in L.A. and Dallas. Each uses proprietary cameras and an in-house tech stack—including displays, rendering software, broadcast tools, and a ticketing platform—to reproduce live events starting at around $12 per ticket, complete with bar service. The company has since staged over 1,200 sports and entertainment events through partnerships with leagues and media companies (including the NBA, NFL, MLB, ESPN, and Amazon) and has sold over 1 million tickets to events like the MLB World Series games, the Liverpool vs. Tottenham match for the 2024-2025 Premier League Title, the NFL Super Bowl LX, and screenings of _The Matrix in Shared Reality_. Cosm plans to expand to Atlanta and Detroit in 2026, and Cleveland in 2027\. —_Charlotte Hu_
