These are the 10 most influential companies in software of 2026. ### Microsoft _AI for every cubicle_ Microsoft 365, the suite of applications that includes Word, Excel, and Teams, has more than 450 million paid seats worldwide, making it the prevalent operating system of office life. Now the company is racing to layer AI on top. By embedding Copilot, its AI assistant, into those products and drawing on models from OpenAI and Anthropic, Microsoft wants to become the default AI interface for the 9-to-5ers. "We don't build tools for power users," says Charles Lamanna, Executive Vice President of Business Applications & Agents. “We build for literally everyone who works in an office.” The push hasn’t been without missteps. Recall, an AI feature that takes periodic screenshots of PC activity, was pulled from its public launch and repeatedly delayed amid privacy and security concerns. But Microsoft’s scale gives it a structural advantage. So far, Microsoft 365 Copilot has 15 million paid seats, and the number is growing fast, with seat growth up more than 160% year over year, though it remains a fraction of Microsoft’s vast installed base. _—Tharin Pillay_ ### Tencent _A gaming giant at a crossroads_ Tencent is arguably the most powerful company in global gaming, with full ownership of Riot Games (League of Legends, Valorant), a controlling stake in Supercell (Clash of Clans), and a 28% share of Epic Games (Fortnite, Unreal Engine)—a portfolio that reaches over a billion players worldwide. Now it’s racing to become an AI powerhouse as well. The company recently integrated the open-source OpenClaw AI agent into WeChat, its super app with [1.4 billion monthly users](https://www.reuters.com/technology/tencent-integrates-wechat-with-openclaw-ai-agent-amid-china-tech-battle-2026-03-22/), and is using AI to sharpen ad targeting, speed up game development, and improve cloud services. Tencent plans to more than double its AI product spending in 2026, led in part by new chief AI scientist Yao Shunyu, a former OpenAI researcher. But a shadow looms: the Trump administration is actively debating whether to force Tencent to divest its Western gaming stakes, and the Pentagon designated Tencent a "Chinese military company" in January 2025, a label Tencent disputes. If Washington forces a sale, it would mark the most significant unwinding of Chinese investment in Western entertainment since the TikTok saga. _—Chris Stokel-Walker_ ### Adobe _Creating with creators_ For 43 years, Adobe has evolved with the times. After creating a foundational programming language for rendering text and graphics, it produced a suite of creative tools, created the PDF file format standardizing how documents are shared, and deployed an industry-leading subscription model. “This company is good at reinventing itself,” says Anil Chakravarthy, president of Adobe’s customer experience orchestration business. The company has over 850 million monthly active users, and as part of its AI integration push, it has kept creators—86% of which already use generative AI [based on a company survey](https://news.adobe.com/news/2025/10/adobe-max-2025-creators-survey)—in control of their process. In filmmaking, where Adobe has a large presence—85% of the films premiering at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival used Adobe software—it partnered media industry leaders like United Talent Agency, production house B5 Studios, VFX studio Cantina Creative, and director David Ayer to test drive and encourage mainstream uptake of Adobe’s Firefly platform, which can generate image, video, and audio. Adobe has also tailored tools to specific needs in media, and last September reported that 99% of Fortune 100 companies have used AI in an Adobe app, including [Walt Disney and Coca-Cola](https://adage.com/technology/ai/aa-new-adobe-creativity-tools-brands-home-depot-disney-coca-cola/), which have used Adobe’s AI tools for marketing. Adobe [reported in March](https://www.adobe.com/cc-shared/assets/investor-relations/pdfs/21306202/ay45th643t5y46.pdf) that its annual recurring revenue from AI-first applications tripled year over year, with Firefly-related video generation increasing eightfold over the same period. As AI lowers the bar to entry for creative work, Adobe hopes to stay ahead by offering end-to-end tools to polish and distribute content at scale. —_Tharin Pillay_ ### Databricks _Information, decoded_ Every day, workers make decisions based on company data they may not fully understand. Databricks is building AI agents that let any employee query their company's data in plain language, no programming knowledge required. Founded in 2013 by seven U.C. Berkeley researchers, the company now works with 70% of the Fortune 500, and its valuation has more than doubled since December 2024 to $134 billion, making it one of the most valuable private companies in the U.S. That trajectory reflects the instincts of CEO Ali Ghodsi, who has a track record of making bets that look contrarian at the time but turn out to be prescient: refusing to pivot away from cloud computing ("there was almost a coup against me by my execs," he says), investing in AI long before ChatGPT became ubiquitous, and staying private while competitors rushed to IPO. “To win the market, you have to have a non-consensus opinion, and you have to be right,” he says. His next big bet: designing databases built for AI agents rather than human developers.. "We're going after the core database market," he says. "We're going after Oracle." _—Tharin Pillay_ _Disclosure: Investors in Databricks include Salesforce, where TIME co-chair and owner Marc Benioff is CEO._ ### Pindrop _Spotting fakes_ After Alex Pretti, an intensive care nurse, was fatally shot by federal immigration officers in Minneapolis in January, journalists reached out to Pindrop, whose technology can detect AI-generated audio and video, asking whether the footage was real. “We ran it. It was all genuine,” says CEO Vijay Balasubramaniyan. Founded in 2011, Pindrop made its name helping call centers figure out whether the person on the other end of the line was genuine or a fraudster. As generative AI made impersonation cheaper and easier, the company expanded into deepfake detection, launching an audio product in 2024 and a [meetings tool](https://time.com/collections/best-inventions-2025/7318241/pindrop-pulse-for-meetings/) in 2025 that analyzes both audio and video in real time for signs of synthetic manipulation. Pindrop says deepfake fraud attempts surged more than 1,300% in 2024, rising from about one every two days to seven per day. Balasubramaniyan likens Pindrop’s technology to a spam filter. “Everyone said email is going to die and spam is going to take over,” he says. Cheap, accurate spam filters may have saved email. Pindrop, he believes, could play a similar role in the deepfake era. _—Nikita Ostrovsky_ ### Lovable _Software for the 99%_ If vibe coding is the future of software, Stockholm-based Lovable is at the forefront. The two-year-old platform lets anyone describe an app, website, or business tool in plain language and turns it into working code—no programming skills required. Co-founded by Fabian Hedin and Anton Osika, a former particle physicist at CERN, Lovable has become the[ fastest-growing software startup in history](https://aifundingtracker.com/lovable-vibe-coding-revenue/), reaching $200 million in annual recurring revenue within a year of launch. In December, it was valued at [$6.6 billion](https://techcrunch.com/2025/12/18/vibe-coding-startup-lovable-raises-330m-at-a-6-6b-valuation/). The company says more than 200,000 new projects are built on its platform every day, and its customers include Uber, Zendesk, Klarna, and McKinsey. Critics have raised concerns about security flaws in apps created by non-programmers, but Osika sees the platform as democratizing tech development. “Large AI labs are building increasingly powerful foundation models,” says Osika. “Lovable is focused on turning those capabilities into an end-to-end product experience for people who want to actually build and launch something.” _—Amrita Khalid_ _Disclosure: Investors in Lovable include Salesforce, where TIME co-chair and owner Marc Benioff is CEO._ ### CoreWeave _The cloud built for AI_ CoreWeave may be invisible to consumers, but it has become one of the companies making the AI boom possible. The New Jersey-based firm supplies the specialized cloud infrastructure that AI companies need to train and run their models at scale. Its growth has been staggering. In 2025, the company [went public](https://www.cnbc.com/2025/03/28/coreweave-starts-trading-on-nasdaq-at-per-share.html) and reported [$5.1 billion in 2025 revenue](https://investors.coreweave.com/news/news-details/2026/CoreWeave-Reports-Strong-Fourth-Quarter-and-Fiscal-Year-2025-Results/default.aspx)—the fastest any cloud company has ever hit that mark—and is projecting more than twice that figure for 2026\. Founded by former Wall Street traders, CoreWeave now counts OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta, Mistral, and IBM among its clients, and its revenue backlog—the income it expects to earn under existing contracts—has quadrupled since the start of 2025 to reach [$66.8 billion](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/coreweaves-66-8b-backlog-boosts-132700098.html). "We are the engine behind the products you know," says CEO Mike Intrator. "When you go to use artificial intelligence, there's a pretty good chance you're going to crash into CoreWeave's infrastructure." —_Alex Stone_ ### Palantir _Data deciphering giant_ Palantir has something for everyone. The 23-year-old company makes software platforms—into which it embeds AI—that help organizations understand and make decisions with their data. Its more than 950 clients include the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.K. National Health Service, and Airbus. Across finance, logistics, manufacturing, energy, telecommunications, and more, the value proposition is the same: let our engineers plug your data into our platforms, so you can do your work better. Some of this work has generated controversy; In May 2025, Palantir was awarded a $795 million modification to its contract with the U.S. Army to license its Maven Smart System—the same system which, since February, has been used in the war in Iran to identify strike targets. In July, the Army consolidated 75 contracts into a new agreement allowing it and other Defense Department agencies to buy up to $10 billion of Palantir software over a 10-year period. And for years, the company has been criticized for its work building systems for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). But the company’s commercial business is now roughly as large as its government work, and growing fast. In February, Palantir announced its most profitable quarter to date, generating $1.4 billion in revenue—a 70% increase over a year prior. To the critics, the company says it’s not responsible for how others use its tech. “Palantir doesn’t impose a normative view on our customers,” says Ryan Taylor, the company’s chief revenue and chief legal officer. “We're the data experts. We're the platform experts. Our customers are the experts in their space—we help our customers operate in their space more effectively.” _—Tharin Pillay_ ### CrowdStrike _Agentic cybersecurity_ Cyberattacks are getting faster and harder to detect, with the average breach now spreading through a network in 29 minutes, down from 98 just five years ago. [AI is compounding the problem](https://time.com/article/2026/04/07/-a-perfect-storm-how-ai-is-transforming-the-global-scam-industry/), powering more convincing phishing campaigns, automating reconnaissance, and even embedding itself into malware. In 2025, [AI-enabled attacks rose by 89%](https://www.crowdstrike.com/en-us/press-releases/2026-crowdstrike-global-threat-report/). So CrowdStrike—whose platform protects nearly 60% of Fortune 500 companies—is fighting fire with fire. The company's Charlotte AI platform deploys autonomous agents that sift through thousands of security alerts, flag genuine threats, and handle routine responses—work that previously required teams of human analysts on duty around the clock. Three acquisitions in 2025 and 2026, worth a combined $1.4 billion, will strengthen CrowdStrike’s defenses across [AI applications](https://www.crowdstrike.com/en-us/blog/crowdstrike-to-acquire-pangea/), [user identity](https://www.crowdstrike.com/en-us/blog/crowdstrike-to-acquire-seraphic/), and [web browsers](https://www.crowdstrike.com/en-us/press-releases/crowdstrike-to-acquire-seraphic-security/). "We're in the bottom of the first inning in terms of AI technology," says CEO George Kurtz, who led the company's recovery from its July 2024 outage that disrupted systems worldwide. "You're going to see a whole host of new security vulnerabilities and areas for adversaries to take advantage of, and I think that creates a massive tailwind for companies like CrowdStrike." —_Chris Stokel-Walker_ ### Figma _Design as the differentiator_ As AI makes software easier for almost anyone to build, Figma is betting that good design will be what sets products apart. "We think that design is the new code," says CEO and cofounder Dylan Field. Figma is a collaborative platform where teams design and prototype digital products together in real time—and, as of last year, turn those designs into live websites and working code without leaving the platform. More than 13 million people use it, including teams at Google, Microsoft, and Netflix. The company [went public](https://www.figma.com/blog/ipo-pricing/) on the NYSE in July and topped [$1 billion in revenue in 2025](https://investor.figma.com/news-events/news/news-details/2026/Figma-Announces-Fourth-Quarter-and-Fiscal-Year-2025-Financial-Results/default.aspx), up 41% year over year. Now Figma is opening its canvas to [AI agents](https://www.figma.com/blog/the-figma-canvas-is-now-open-to-agents/), letting automated systems work directly inside the design environment, a sign that Field sees the platform becoming a place where humans and AI build together. "The moment that we're in is one of existential change, and we intend to meet it," he says.
