But even by that standard, this year’s crop of April releases has felt enormous—not to mention delightfully diverse. Below, you’ll find a truly eclectic handful of wonders: a _Handmaid’s Tale_ sequel that’s actually worth watching, a show about a guy who shrinks his wife that actually has a lot to say on marriage, a sensitive and funny depiction of teen motherhood and sex work, a timely but still enjoyable Silicon Valley satire, and a gardening show that won’t put you to sleep. ## _The Audacity_ (AMC) In a scene from AMC’s new [tech-industry](https://time.com/tag/technology/) drama _The Audacity_, two old friends reunite around a crackling campfire. “Men like you and me, we gotta duck when sh-t f-cks the fan,” [Randall Park](https://time.com/5597838/review-always-be-my-maybe/)’s Gabe tells his pal turned business partner, Duncan (Billy Magnussen). “Get an island, get some guns, and go long on guillotines.” Gabe is already putting that plan into action. Once a hedonist partying with the proceeds of a website called GambleSluts.com, he’s now living as a paranoiac quasi-hermit on a luxurious private island. As Duncan sadly notes, Gabe has stationed armed guards where models in bikinis used to gyrate. Premiering April 12, the series joins a voluminous canon of tech satires ([_Silicon Valley_](https://time.com/48931/hbos-silicon-valley-is-as-silly-and-mundane-as-the-real-one/)), thrillers ([_Westworld_](https://time.com/5801384/westworld-season-3-review/)), sagas ([_Halt and Catch Fire_](https://time.com/3980486/review-halt-and-catch-fire-season-2-finale/)), philosophical treatises ([_Devs_](https://time.com/5793864/devs-fx-hulu-alex-garland-review/)), and compilations of all of the above ([_Black Mirror_](https://time.com/6287513/black-mirror-season-6-review/)); the more this sector dominates our lives, the larger it looms in the minds of our storytellers. Yet, in its portrayal of industry leaders panicking as [consensus spreads](https://time.com/7377579/ai-data-centers-people-movement-cover/) that the [billionaire founders](https://time.com/7289468/elon-musk-controversial-white-house-moments-doge-departure/) who were hailed as geniuses and visionaries a decade ago have [poisoned](https://time.com/collections/the-100-must-read-books-of-2025/7329485/careless-people/) the world they claimed to be saving, _The Audacity_ feels more contemporary than any of them. **\[**[**Read the full review**](https://time.com/article/2026/04/10/the-audacity-review/)**.\]** ## _Margo’s Got Money Troubles_ (Apple TV) The rights to adapt Rufi Thorpe’s novel [_Margo’s Got Money Troubles_](https://time.com/collections/must-read-books-2024/7172817/margos-got-money-problems/)for TV were [snapped up](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/a24-david-e-kelley-adapt-tv-margos-got-money-troubles-1235626668/) nearly a year before its publication, with [Nicole Kidman](https://time.com/collections/women-of-the-year/7216403/nicole-kidman-interview/), [David E. Kelley](https://time.com/6165832/anatomy-of-a-scandal-review/), Elle and [Dakota Fanning](https://time.com/6962630/ripley-review-netflix-andrew-scott/), and the swaggering indie studio [A24](https://time.com/collections/time100-companies-2023/6285169/a24/) all attached to the project. Read the book, and you’ll see why. It tells the story of a college freshman and aspiring writer who gets pregnant by her married professor, decides to have the baby—financial precarity be damned—and turns to [OnlyFans](https://time.com/collections/time100-companies/5950032/onlyfans/) to support the child. Maybe this sounds like an X-rated [_Juno_](https://time.com/archive/6908618/juno-no-false-notes/)ripoff. But Thorpe’s prose ushers us through the eponymous hero’s crises with humor and panache, filtering the bright but naive protagonist-Margo’s evolution through the voice of a narrator-Margo who has developed some perspective. She’s surrounded by distinctive, lovable yet deeply flawed characters. The dialogue is as realistic as it is punchy. It all adds up to an unconventional sort of [Künstlerroman](https://www.britannica.com/art/Kunstlerroman) that demands to be devoured in a weekend and revisited whenever you need a pick-me-up. But just because a book is an obvious choice for adaptation, doesn’t mean that the show will live up to its source material. _Margo_’s layered voice presents a challenge; the novel-to-series pipeline often relies too heavily on clunky, uncinematic narration. Thorpe’s characters are so specific, their balance of prickliness and kindness and quirk so delicate, that one wrong casting choice could ruin the whole viewing experience. And it takes a certain offbeat finesse to integrate Margo’s far-out OnlyFans productions—which become a more satisfying creative outlet than any freshman comp seminar—into what is otherwise a grounded family dramedy. I’ve been [extremely critical](https://time.com/6987435/presumed-innocent-review-apple/) of Kelley’s prolific post-[_Big Little Lies_](https://time.com/4673242/big-little-lies-author-liane-moriarty-interview/)output. So let me be very clear that with _Margo_, whose first three episodes hit Apple TV on Wednesday, he has succeeded where many other creators might’ve failed. But it’s also surprisingly good. Starring and executive produced by [Elizabeth Banks](https://time.com/6255751/cocaine-bear-elizabeth-banks-interview/) and [Matthew Macfadyen](https://time.com/6283317/matthew-macfadyen-tom-wambsgans-succession-finale/), Peacock’s sci-fi dramedy takes its premise not from a cynical suit who fell asleep watching _Honey, I Shrunk the Kids_ but from a deadpan, surrealistic short story by Manuel Gonzales. And in a 10-episode season, creators Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner ([_Goliath_](https://time.com/4520920/goliath-amazon-studios-legal-drama/), _Ash vs Evil Dead_) shade that spare source material into an entertaining, remarkably insightful portrait of marriage, family, and the skewed narratives people create for themselves about both. **\[**[**Read the full review**](https://time.com/article/2026/04/08/miniature-wife-review/)**.\]** ## _The Testaments_ (Hulu) Often presented in closeup, Elisabeth Moss’s face—a mask of feral determination—was the key visual motif of _The Handmaid’s Tale_. Faces are also integral to _The Testaments_, a loose adaptation of the [2019 sequel](https://time.com/5673535/the-testaments-plot-questions-margaret-atwood/) to [Margaret Atwood](https://time.com/collections/finding-hope-coronavirus-pandemic/5820595/margaret-atwood-coronavirus-uncertainty/)’s [1985 masterpiece](https://time.com/archive/6705457/books-repressions-of-a-new-day-the-handmaids-tale/). Chase Infiniti’s open expression and the youthful flush of co-star Lucy Halliday contrast with the furrowed mug of Ann Dowd’s Aunt Lydia; innocence, meet experience. It might surprise those who know the novels or the original series that creator [Bruce Miller](https://time.com/4754200/the-handmaids-tale-showrunner-changes-from-book/), who also helmed its predecessor, has taken this follow-up in a conspicuously young-adult direction. The choice yields a brighter, richer, more varied and nuanced story in which coming-of-age tropes mingle with Gileadean bleakness to reveal new facets of a state premised on male supremacy. While many of the problems that afflicted _The Handmaid’s Tale_ as it dragged on persist, and the need for consistency between the series introduces more, I was surprised at how well it all worked. **\[**[**Read the full review**](https://time.com/article/2026/04/08/the-testaments-review-hulu/)**.\]** ## _This Is a Gardening Show_ (Netflix) After becoming ubiquitous in the wake of the [_Hangover_](https://time.com/archive/6910037/the-hangover-a-bro-magnon-bromance/) trilogy, [Zach Galifianakis](https://time.com/archive/6595749/zach-galifianakis-hates-to-be-loved/) has kept a fairly low profile in the 2020s. So it’s a particular delight to see him prominently placed in two wonderful but very different shows this spring. While _The Audacity_ capitalizes on his sad-clown aspect, casting him in a crucial supporting role as a depressive billionaire tech guru, he is the main attraction and driving force behind _This Is a Gardening Show_. Galifianakis brings 25 years of experience in his own garden to the series, which delivers precisely what its title promises. In each refreshingly compact, 15-minute episode, the comedian introduces viewers to the cultivation of a crop (apples, root vegetables) or a related practice (foraging, composting), with help from some good-humored expert—usually a yeoman farmer. The other constant is Galifianakis, whose absurdist humor is much gentler here than what you might remember from, say, [_Between the Ferns_](https://time.com/19822/obama-between-two-ferns/), chatting up little kids about the subject du jour. These segments yield plenty of modern-day _Kids Say the Darndest Things_ moments, as well as many topically appropriate poop jokes. It’s an easy, lighthearted watch. But there’s also an earnest impetus behind the project.
