If Trump does this it would be silent genocide.” The ultimatum appeared on Truth Social on Saturday at 7:44 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time: “If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!” Iranian officials responded by threatening retaliation against Israel and Persian Gulf states hosting U.S. bases and promising the “complete destruction” of power plants, energy and information technology (ICT) infrastructure, desalination plants, as well as “any company in the region that has American shareholders.” But ordinary Iranians took no comfort in the vow of mutual destruction. “Electricity is also water, communications, gas at the pump. When you lose electricity, you lose all of these, and that’s no joke in major cities,” said a political activist who asked not to be named for his own security. “This will only increase the feeling of frustration many Iranians are already feeling, especially for those who have young children or elderly in the family.” Though Trump did not name “the biggest” power plant, the professor understood it as the 2,800-megawatt Damavand[ facility](https://www.power-technology.com/data-insights/power-plant-profile-damavand-combined-cycle-power-plant-iran/) outside Tehran, which generates electricity from natural gas. “That means the capital will be devastated,” he said. “There won’t be water.
