The “regimes in Russia and Iran are brothers in hatred and that is why they are brothers in weapons,” he said. Zelensky recalled how Russia began deploying Iranian-designed Shahed drones after it invaded Ukraine in 2022 and claimed the drones being used by Iran in the current war have Russian components. Highlighting the widespread dangers facing Ukraine but also allies across the world, Zelensky warned that low-cost drone technology has increased the risks of attacks. An Iranian drone costs around $50k, he said, meanwhile opponents are using missiles that cost around $4m to shoot them down. (TIME has been unable to independently verify these figures.) Zelensky championed Ukraine’s low-cost drone defense technology, which is capable of intercepting Iranian-designed Shahed drones and has become [highly relevant](https://time.com/article/2026/03/15/iran-war-ukraine-drones/) in the Iran war. “Drones can solve problems that even a fleet sometimes can’t,” said Zelensky, emphasizing the high-tech aspect of warfare. “Our belief that we can stop even a much stronger enemy is not something abstract.
