Alan’s War grew from an unusual friendship—bridging generations—that began with a chance meeting between American expat Alan Cope and award-winning French graphic artist Emmanuel Guibert. Though technically a collection of comics spanning more than two decades, Harvey Pekar’s American Splendor is generally regarded as one of the great forefathers of the modern graphic memoir.
