Nearly 50 years after they were first recorded, 59 tracks of previously unreleased Beatles music [appeared](http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-25413838) on iTunes Tuesday to keep them from falling out of copyright. The songs come from outtakes, demos and BBC sessions the Beatles recorded in 1963\. Although the songs had been available in bootleg recordings, they were never formally released.

According to [European Union](http://topics.time.com/european-union/) copyright law, recordings are only covered for 70 years without an official release. The full album appeared on the UK iTunes store around 2 p.m. GMT and will remain there indefinitely. Other countries aren’t so lucky: The two-disc set was released briefly on the [New Zealand](http://topics.time.com/new-zealand/) and possibly Australia iTunes stores, but then disappeared. Some fans caught screenshots before the tracks were taken down.

The compilation includes alternate takes of “She Loves You” among other songs.
