### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. Through Project Managers Without Borders, PMI connects chapters and volunteers with nonprofits and NGOs that need project management expertise to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of social initiatives. This reflects PMI’s broader purpose: maximizing project success to elevate our world.

### Round 1 Winner

—Paul Thomsen, GRAY, NORTHERN TERRITORYWe were camping near Katherine Gorge for the weekend. I'd just got off the boat tour with my children and we were walking along the edge of the gorge when I noticed the kayaks and canoes lined up for hire. As I got closer, I saw someone paddling in to return a kayak, so I seized the moment and caught him and the watching vendor in the same shot. Paul Thomsen

### Round 5 Runner-up

![Hien Nguyen](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt8bc795a893191ce0/698a802f457a528453d6e8ed/aus_image_10.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Hien Nguyen, MELBOURNE, VICTORIAIn March this year a friend and I spent a day traveling up Victoria's Great Ocean Road west of Melbourne. When we reached the Twelve Apostles the sun was going down; it was just a matter of waiting until it culminated in this spectacular sunset Hien Nguyen

### Round 6 Winner

![Mark Steene](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt028868874eba32e4/698a8030457a5258a3d6e8f1/aus_image_11.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Mark Steene, WAYVILLE, SOUTH AUSTRALIALake Gairdner is a large salt lake in the far north of South Australia. My mate and I arrived late in the day one Easter weekend and drove straight out onto it. Brilliantly white, it seems to go on forever — the sense of space is broken only by the shoreline on the horizon. This image was taken at last light. That's me with my hands on my hips. We sat out there, drank beer and told stories. We felt like great explorers. Mark Steene

### Round 6 Runner-up

![Gordon Hammond](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt9553fca0303f4ba3/698a803116d8849f0fc42cd7/aus_image_12.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Gordon Hammond, CLAREVILLE, NEW SOUTH WALESRecently, the indigenous communities of Sydney celebrated Aboriginal culture and dance at the Sydney Dreaming Festival — or Garrabadu — at Homebush. It struck me how these dancers appeared to be floating like flames in the wind. Gordon Hammond

### Round 7 Winner

![Grant Milligan](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/bltf9f4208b0982a3b8/698a8032457a525274d6e8fa/aus_image_13.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Grant Milligan, CAIRNS, QUEENSLANDWhile teaching at a remote community in the Northern Territory, I was invited to tag along during mustering season at Epenarra Station. This ute had been custom designed and fitted, taking the concept of a bull bar to the limit. When the chopper failed to get the big bulls to move, the ute was ready to "persuade" them — even the most gigantic and stubborn ones. Grant Milligan

### Round 7 Runner-up

![Grant Milligan](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt390c13f7342a3b79/698a803347ca38b9e53c1b9a/aus_image_14.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Kate O'Neill, COBURG, VICTORIAThe Great Matilda Camel Races are held annually at Charleville in Outback Queensland. It's one of the smaller meets on the camel-racing circuit and has a real local flavor. Notoriously unpredictable, the camels are just as likely to jump the fence and throw their rider as they are to cross the finish line. I took this as well-known jockey Brett Scott crossed the finish line on an old camel named Whipstick Billy. Grant Milligan

### Round 8 Winner

![Chris Bray](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt5bdbae8d8d2c3b25/698a8034b3fce3a19c0d14a1/aus_image_15.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

—Chris Bray, AVALON, NEW SOUTH WALESThe view from the top of Tasmania's Cradle Mountain in midwinter — if you're lucky enough to get a break in the weather — is spectacular. I set my camera to take a photo after a two-minute delay and perched it on a rock, giving me and my girlfriend just enough time to reach the top and gaze out over the frozen expanse below. Cradle Mountain is on the famous Overland Track that weaves through the Tasmanian Highlands, crowded in summer, but beautifully silent in winter. Chris Bray

### Round 8 Runner-up

![Steve Jones](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt9491981cec297cd2/698a80359d83e87ccdb9e418/aus_image_16.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Steve Jones, SYLVANIA, NEW SOUTH WALESI took this photo at Bondi Beach before work one morning. To me it captures what living in Australia is all about. I'm lucky enough to be able to start my day at one of the best beaches in the world — where the surfers have style even at 6 a.m. Steve Jones

### Round 9 Winner

![Sarah Maddox](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt273e9c7bd82d3d32/698a803609208f8c684214bc/aus_image_17.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Sarah Maddox, CARLTON NORTH, VICTORIAI love the laneways in inner-city Melbourne. There is something very Melbourne about them, but they also make you feel that you've been transported to a back street in Europe. I took this in the middle of the day. I'd set up my tripod, intending just to capture the people streaming along the lane, when the man sat down right in front of me and started reading his book. Sarah Maddox

### Round 9 Runner Up

![Mike Eidam](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt7f36a1fe100c2541/698a8037c9e94148e212199e/aus_image_18.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Mike Eidam, JURIEN BAY, WESTERN AUSTRALIAI took this photo in the Jurien Bay Marine Park, about 270 km north of Perth, which is home to several colonies of Australian sea lions — the world's rarest sea lion species. They are very curious and will come quite close to snorkelers. Mike Eidam

### Round 10 Winner

![Jacky Ghossein](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/bltb73a1f201959c939/698a80370116822313989ed3/aus_image_19.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Jacky Ghossein, CAMPSIE, NEW SOUTH WALESDuring a four-wheel-drive tour of Arnhem Land last month, we stopped near a creek to have lunch and cool off and saw these kids splashing about. Some of them didn't speak English, so there was a lot of laughing and giggling. It was a really lovely interaction. I was dying to go for a swim myself, but I didn't dare. I thought the kids must know what they were doing, but we'd been told there could be crocodiles in the water. Jacky Ghossein

— Daniel Heather, MONA VALE, NEW SOUTH WALESAs a surfer who grew up on Sydney's northern beaches, I was glad when my kids were old enough to enjoy the beach and the surf too. This is my eldest daughter, Kobie, bodysurfing a shore breaker at Bilgola. In summer we always spend mornings at the beach, and this photo captures it all — sun, surf and good times! I used an underwater camera and sat in the shore waiting for the perfect break. Daniel Heather

### Round 10 Runner-up

— Barbara Bryan, ARTARMON, NEW SOUTH WALESThis iconic roadhouse is in Oodnadatta, about 200 km from Coober Pedy, South Australia (the two canoes are a typical bit of Outback humor). We were on a month-long road trip and pulled in to stock up on fuel and supplies. While we were enjoying the self-serve coffee, the owner came up and introduced herself. She gave us up-to-date notes on where to camp, and handed us the key to the local museum, housed in the old Ghan railway station. Barbara Bryan

### Round 11 Winner and Overall Winner

![Allan Coker](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/bltdae8831cc1691c72/698a8039929fad653fc00b30/aus_image_21.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Allan Coker, LEICHHARDT, NEW SOUTH WALESOn our way back from a trip to the Snowy Mountains, we were passing through the township of Bredbo when I spotted this line of utes in a paddock next to the pub. I got talking to a few of the proud young owners and asked if I could take some photos. The utes were easy enough, but I had only moderate success in taming the blue heeler. Since it was on a leash, I took the chance to get in close and low with a super-wide lens. With the utes, the dog, the Australian flags and the Holden and R.M. Williams banners, this scene struck me as quintessentially Australian. Allan Coker

### Round 11 Runner-up

![David Spira](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/bltc9e3908f91831b32/698a803a18689249bd6cc452/aus_image_22.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— David Spira, ST IVES, NEW SOUTH WALESOur family had taken the opportunity of a few free days to holiday at Fingal Bay, New South Wales. As we walked around the bay at the end of a day at the beach, the late-afternoon light and salt spray seemed to transform everything in our path and lift a typical holiday scene out of the ordinary. David Spira

### Round 12 Winner

![Debrah Novak](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blte6c4f3b324c359b8/698a803bdb2987216926fd13/aus_image_23.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Debrah Novak, YAMBA, NEW SOUTH WALESI live right across from Yamba beach and used to work at the surf club — my three children have all been members, too. Yamba is the oldest regional surf lifesaving club in Australia, and this year is its centenary. As part of the celebrations, the club hosted the far north coast's first carnival of the season. It was a fantastic day — a couple of hundred kids came. The boy in the center, from Yamba, is on his way to winning the under-12s flag event. Debrah Novak

### Round 12 Runner-up

— Melanie Russell, STANWELL PARK, NEW SOUTH WALESI was in Tamworth to photograph some of the women taking part in the National Rodeo Finals. It was a scorching hot day, and while their parents were competing these kids cooled off in a plastic pool. Debrah Novak

### Round 2 Winner

![Gary Brennand](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blta593679a6fa8adcb/698a803cd075331585e74f35/aus_image_03.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Gary Brennand, BRINSMEAD, QUEENSLANDI was out diving on the Barrier Reef near Cairns when this graceful green sea turtle swam by. I managed to capture a photo of it as it passed under the dive boat. To me this picture shows the beauty, peace and tranquility I find underwater. It's where I go to get away from it all. Gary Brennand

### Round 2 Runner-up

![Peter Meyer](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/bltb2992fa08ad3077b/698a802bb3fce34d6d0d1493/aus_image_04.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

—Peter Meyer, FRASER ISLAND, QUEENSLANDThe water in Lake McKenzie is so clear that if you go canoeing at night with a torch, you can see the small turtles from 5 m away. The reflection of the stars in the water when you look down makes you feel like you're canoeing through space. During the day it can get pretty busy but there are times and certain spots when you feel you have the whole lake to yourself: have a swim, then lie down and relax on the purest, whitest sand you will ever see. Peter Meyer

### Round 3 Winner

![Cathy Davis](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt078bcd77b7a1e66f/698a802bb3fce332dd0d1497/aus_image_05.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Cathy Davis, KINGAROY, QUEENSLANDThis photo was taken at our property near Kingaroy before the drought hit southeast Queensland. It reminds me of what it was like when we had regular rain and what we can look forward to when the drought breaks. Our daughter saw the jacaranda flowers and said, "The fairies have made a purple carpet!" Cathy Davis

### Round 3 Runner-up

![Hung Tran](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt0036ad9a23131a5a/698a802be6e84a4de02b718b/aus_image_06.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Hung Tran, CANBERRA, AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORYI saw these tulips at Floriade, Canberra's annual flower show. Flowers are photographed so often, I wanted to take them from an unusual angle, so I got down low and turned my camera lens up to the sky. Hung Tran

### Round 4 Winner

![Peter Westcoast](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/bltfe989ea16bf17c03/698a802c9862f56ec7899dcf/aus_image_07.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Peter Westcoast, MILDURA, VICTORIAThis is a two-up game at the Derby races, in northwestern Australia. My mother grew up in Derby and I went there with her on a camping trip to see the old places. At the races — the biggest social events of the year for many Kimberley towns — we came across a two-up game. I tried shooting from inside the circle, but it didn't capture the whole scene, so I got up on a chair behind the guy in the hat Peter Westcoast

### Round 4 Runner-up

![Nick Andrew](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt7f333f951f60a9e9/698a802dcabb1d66cce58555/aus_image_08.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Nick Andrew, GLENSIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIAA jetty, a sunset and a couple. I took about 30 shots of this scene, on the beach at Glenelg, Adelaide, because it just seemed so perfect. It was a long exposure, and the couple kept moving, but eventually I got the shot Nick Andrew

### Round 5 Winner

![Nick Andrew](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt75007bde72bb1781/698a802ecabb1dc983e58559/aus_image_09.jpg?branch=production&width=1440&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

— Lisa Wiltse, CLOVELLY, NEW SOUTH WALESI'd just arrived in Australia from the U.S., and this was my first visit to Manly, on one of the hottest days of summer. I was fascinated by this family who had come all the way from Macquarie Fields \[in Sydney's west\], dragging everything but the kitchen sink with them. I spent a couple of hours with them, developing a relationship so that they were very relaxed when I took this shot Nick Andrew
