### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. Through Project Managers Without Borders, PMI connects chapters and volunteers with nonprofits and NGOs that need project management expertise to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of social initiatives. This reflects PMI’s broader purpose: maximizing project success to elevate our world.

### Lucian Freud with Zebra Head, circa 1943

The British painter Lucian Freud, who was 88 when he died on July 21, proved with a bang the continuing vitality of the figurative tradition in art. In 1993, Time's then-art critic Robert Hughes, called him "the best realist painter alive". A grandson of Sigmund Freud—his father Ernst was Freud's son—he was born in Berlin but came to England when his family fled Hitler in 1933, later studying art at various British schools. By his teens he was already publishing portrait drawings of British literary celebrities like the essayist Cyril Connoly and the poet Stephen Spender. ©Lucien Freud / Courtesy Tate Modern

### Queen Elizabeth II, 2000-2001

![©Lucien Freud / The Royal Collection](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt2558acd02dd607b1/698a68ead075332323e72b09/lucien_freud_11.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

To put it mildly, Freud's unflinching portrait of the Queen divided British critics. Richard Cork, the chief art critic of the Times of London called it "painful, brave, honest, stoical and above all, clear sighted." But Robert Simon, editor of the British Art Journal, said: "It makes her look like one of the royal corgis who has suffered a stroke." ©Lucien Freud / The Royal Collection

### Self-Portrait, Reflection, 2002

Freud turned his unsparing gaze on himself many times. "You've got to try to paint yourself as another person," he said. "Looking in the mirror is a strain in the way that looking at other people isn't at all." ©Lucien Freud / Courtesy Tate Modern

### Girl with Kitten, 1947

![©Lucien Freud / Courtesy Tate Modern](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/bltaec2460236799793/698a68ebd07533707ee72b11/lucien_freud_02.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

By the early 1940s , Freud had begun at last to paint, something he had resisted for years. Portraits and interior scenes for the most part, his first works featured a sharp, tight line that he discovered in the painters of the Northern Renaissance—Albrecht Dürer was a favorite—and a cold, unsparing light. ©Lucien Freud / Courtesy Tate Modern

### Girl with a White Dog, 1950-51

![©Lucien Freud / Courtesy Tate Modern](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt5ccaeba8f6ca12a5/698a68ec09208f222c41f031/lucien_freud_03.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

Freud's great subject was the human figure, meticulously inspected and offered without sentiment, though not without respect for the human predicament. He painted his friends, family and lovers, usually requiring multiple lengthy sittings. In many pictures he also combined people with dogs, two different but related kinds of awareness. The glum, apprehensive woman here is his first wife, Kitty. You can tell by looking that their marriage wasn't going well. They divorced in 1953. ©Lucien Freud / Courtesy Tate Modern

### Boy Smoking, 1950-1951

![©Lucien Freud / Courtesy Tate Modern](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/bltba74af8023a0c5bf/698a68ed47ca3829f33bf6e9/lucien_freud_04.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

Like the photographer Diana Arbus, Freud understood that extreme close-up could make the most realistic image surreal and unnerving. The boy's head here has the monumentality of an Egyptian carving, but the dangling cigarette keeps pulling him back into the present. ©Lucien Freud / Courtesy Tate Modern

### Two Japanese Wrestlers by a Sink, 1983-87

![©Lucien Freud / Courtesy Tate Modern](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/bltd4d6f2d709bb77c8/698a68ee09208f437341f036/lucien_freud_05.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

The backdrop in most of Freud's pictures is his decidedly unglamorous studio. Here a prosaic but richly painted white sink takes up most of the canvas, though the cut out figures of two plump wrestlers keep flesh in the picture. ©Lucien Freud / Courtesy Tate Modern

### Standing by the Rags, 1988-89

![©Lucien Freud / Courtesy Tate Modern](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt3f86d2d965196aee/698a68ee1868924d776c9e59/lucien_freud_06.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

One of the most important developments in Freud's art was his transition in the late 1950s, under the inspiration of his friend Francis Bacon, from the thin brushes that he used in his fine-lined pictures to thicker hog's bristle brushes that pushed pigment across the canvas in rich, thick flourishes. ©Lucien Freud / Courtesy Tate Modern

### Naked Man, Back View, 1991-92

![Raphael Gaillarde / Gamma-Rapho / Getty Images](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/bltca573535947f3b1e/698a68e618689249066c9e4c/lucien_freud_08.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

Freud loved abundant flesh. So he was thrilled to make the acquaintance of Leigh Bowery, a performance artist and fixture of London's clubland in the 1980s. (He was the central figure a few years ago of the short lived Broadway musical Taboo that starred Boy George.) Freud made a series of Bowery nudes, including this. Bowery was dying of AIDS in the years that he painted him, with a humane eye that Rembrandt would have approved. Raphael Gaillarde / Gamma-Rapho / Getty Images

### Benefits Supervisor Sleeping, 1995

![©Lucien Freud / Courtesy Tate Modern](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/bltadbea5b4faf1f013/698a68e7b3fce36c010cefd3/lucien_freud_09.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

Nudes were at the heart of Freud's output. He spent almost two years working on this portrait of Sue Tilley, a woman who worked at a London unemployment office who modeled for him on her days off. "I only had three days off in two years," she once said. "Every weekend he expected me to be there, and I couldn't go on holiday because I couldn't get a tan." The setting and figure are utterly unglamorous, but the echoes of the classical nude on a couch, from Titian to Manet, are obvious. Not all of Freud's portraits were nudes. When this one was first exhibited seven years ago many people were surprised to learn that the sitter was Andrew Parker-Bowles, who had been the husband of Camilla Parker-Bowles during the years that she was pursuing her affair with Prince Charles. He presents himself to us here in his public mask—the dress uniform of the Royal Household Cavalry. Andrea Merola / EPA
