### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. Through Project Managers Without Borders, PMI connects chapters and volunteers with nonprofits and NGOs that need project management expertise to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of social initiatives. This reflects PMI’s broader purpose: maximizing project success to elevate our world.

The Runawaysis but the latest cinematic effort to bring the story of a real life rock band to the big screen

### The Runaways, 2010

![Apparition / Everett](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/bltbb2001e569759e67/698a5e31cabb1d1aa0e54e3d/the_runaways.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

Teen queens Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning star in this retelling of the life and times of the 70s all-girl rock band with the same name. The film centers around Jett and the attitudes the band members faced as they tried to make their way in the male-dominated rock universe of the time. The movie comes out in limited release March 19, 2010. Apparition / Everett

### Sid and Nancy, 1986

![Samuel Goldwyn Films / Everett](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/bltceaae2b8251c48a7/698a5e32d07533dd58e71946/sid_and_nancy.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

The punk rock love affair of Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen lay at the center of this British film. The story traces Sid's rise to fame with the notorious Pistols and his and Nancy's descent into a drug addiction that spins recklessly out of control. Former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon, a.k.a. Johnny Rotten, openly criticized director Alex Cox for not consulting him in the making of the movie. In his autobiography, Lydon called the movie "the lowest form of life", though the soundtrack does not contain any tracks by him or the Sex Pistols. Samuel Goldwyn Films / Everett

### Control, 2007

![Weinstein Co. / Everett](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt69356206204eda24/698a5e3318689234e86c8d41/control.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

Based on the troubled life of Ian Curtis, the lead vocalist for the post-punk band Joy Division, this biopic tells the story of a young man, played by Sam Riley, who is recruited to join the band that eventually becomes Joy Division, but who is plagued by epilepsy and his failing marriage. In the end he commits suicide by hanging himself in his kitchen at the tender age of 23\. The movie was a directorial debut for Anton Corbijn, who had known the members of Joy Division since the late 70s. Weinstein Co. / Everett

### I’m Not There, 2007

![Weinstein Co. / Everett](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt1fa4ddc35baac7e4/698a5e3309208f2a4941df3c/im_not_there.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

Bob Dylan's life is portrayed in six non-linear segments by an all-star cast that includes Heath Ledger, Richard Gere, Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale, Ben Wishaw and Marcus Carl Franklin. According to director Todd Haynes, the idea behind the film is based on "Dylan's life of change and constant disappearances and constant transformations (that) make you yearn to hold him, and to nail him down". Cate Blanchett, who plays Dylan during the period 1965-1966, was repeatedly recognized for her performance and won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. Weinstein Co. / Everett

### Last Days, 2005

![Fine Line / Everett](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/bltcc79185f89faab33/698a5e3447ca387e8b3be572/last_days.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

Director Gus Van Sant based this film on the last days of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. Though he had wanted to make a biographical film he decided to do a completely fictionalized story of the singer's final days out of the fear of being sued by Cobain's widow, Courtney Love. Fine Line / Everett

### Walk the Line, 2005

![20th Century Fox Film / Everett](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt7bbef5a939c7941a/698a5e34b3fce31f150cdf16/walk_the_line.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

Based on the Cash's own autobiographies this box office biopic follows the artist's early years and his romance with singer June Carter. The movie was a huge hit both critically and commercially, taking in more than $186 million at the box office. Reese Witherspoon, who plays June Carter, was constantly singled out for her performance, and made a sweep at the award shows, winning the Best Actress award at the Oscars, BAFTAs, and the Golden Globes. 20th Century Fox Film / Everett

### Ray, 2004

![Universal / Everett](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt4d8b576d62fe7a1e/698a5e359d83e82fe7b9ada3/ray.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

Jamie Foxx stars in this box office hit portraying the first 30 years of the life of R&B great Ray Charles. Foxx's performance garnered him many nominations and wins, most notably the Academy Award for Best Actor. Ray Charles was set to attend the opening of this film but died before the movie's premier. Universal / Everett

### Selena, 1997

![Warner Bros. / Everett](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt706777d921be22b7/698a5e309d83e848b0b9ad9d/selena.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

The mainstream was introduced to Jennifer Lopez in her breakout performance of the Tejano music singer, Selena, who was then relatively unknown. Although many of the singer's fans were outraged that a Puerto Rican actress was chosen for the role, Lopez's outstanding portrayal of the singer convinced them otherwise. The movie follows the life of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez from her humble roots to super stardom, right through to her death at the hands of her friend and the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldívar. Jennifer Lopez won a Golden Globe for her performance. Warner Bros. / Everett

### The Doors, 1991

![TriStar / Everett](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blta3eb29392218f17a/698a5e30186892f0f26c8d3b/the_doors.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

Oliver Stone directed this ambitious biopic, portraying the history of the Doors through the life of the lead singer, Jim Morrison, played by Val Kilmer. Although based on real people and actual events, the film has been criticized by former bandmates for its inaccuracies, especially the way in which Morrison is portrayed as an "out of control sociopath". Keyboardist Ray Manzarek has been working on a documentary of the Doors set to be released this spring titled When You're Strange, which he considers to be "anti-Oliver Stone". TriStar / Everett

### La Bamba, 1987

![Columbia / Everett](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blta463df389f4865c8/698a5e31db2987693326c6db/la_bamba.jpg?branch=production&width=1200&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=16:9)

Although Ritchie Valens' recording career lasted only eight months, it paved the way for future generation of many chicano artists. In this Luis Valdez-directed biopic, the Latino rocker is played by Lou Diamond Phillips, who gives a critically acclaimed performance that propelled the film to a Golden Globe award for Best Motion Picture, Drama in 1988\. The story traces Valens' ascent to stardom, weaving in his personal relationships and ending, of course, with the fatal plane crash that killed him, Buddy Holly, and The Big Bopper in 1959.
