On his special contour chair in a Manhattan courtroom, balding, black-browed Dr. Robert A. Soblen, 60, gasped and covered his face last week as a federal jury—after little more than one hour of deliberation—found him guilty of wartime espionage for the Soviet Union (TIME, June 30). Convicted largely on the testimony of his brother, confessed Red Spy Jack Soble, 58, Psychiatrist Soblen faces a possible death sentence.
