Paroled 2½ years ago after submitting to a brain operation that he hoped would cure him of stealing, clapped into a Butler (Pa.) jail a fortnight ago for thieving again (TIME, June 30), 42-year-old Millard Wright took his case into his own hands. “I am sentencing myself to death,” he wrote in his cell this week. Then, using broken eyeglasses to slash his arm, he committed suicide.
