Since V-J day, the Office of Contract Settlement had been doing a good job of clearing its books of 177,000 prime war contracts. In this year’s first quarter, some 37,000 were settled. As of March 31, OCS reported this week, the U.S. had settled all but 23,900 contracts, with original commitments calling for $24.3 billion in products.
