WAGES & SALARIES

Unlike most U.S. businesses, the New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad has two presidents on its payroll. One is Lynne L. White of Glencoe, Ill., who draws a $75,000-a-year salary. The other is John W. Davin, who died last January, but still draws $50,000 a year. This extraordinary arrangement came out last week when Davin’s heirs filed a report with the federal tax collector in Cleveland. It showed that Davin, president since 1942, had signed a contract in January 1948 which specified that in event of death his salary would be paid to his heirs. The heirs—three daughters, a sister and a brother—will go on collecting until 1953.
