Cinema: Midsummer Box Office

Ticket buyers were still pretty choosy, but they packed in to see a good picture—or a bad one, for that matter, if it got enough ballyhoo. During the past month, according to Variety, the following were leaders:

1) Miracle on 34th St. (20th Century-Fox)

2) Duel in the Sun (SRO) and Dear Ruth (Paramount)

3) Great Expectations (Rank; Universal-International )

4) The Yearling (MGM) and Cheyenne (Warner)

5) Copacabana (United Artists).
