In Sheffield, Yorkshire, Mrs. Sarah Meese enfolded and kissed her new daughter-in-law—the former Fräulein Ursula Hosier of Kreuzburg, Upper Silesia. Said British Mrs. Meese to German Mrs. Meese: “You are lovely. I’ll look after you. Don’t worry. I’ll make you happy.”
Many months ago Ursula found R.A.F. Flight Sergeant Donald Meese hiding in a Silesian barn after escape from a prison camp, hid him from pursuers, gave him clothes and a map for escape. Ursula followed later, married him in Cracow, went to England with him.
Of thousands of letters received by the Meeses from Britons, most were pro-Ursula. Of the others, Mother-in-Law Meese remarked: “I burned those.”
