In Houston, Texas last week, A.F. of L’s Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union demanded that proprietors of drive-in, curb-service restaurants pay their 300 waitresses more money, cover them up. “Those girls wear shorts or grass skirts, rain or shine.” said the union’s Jack Parm-ley. “Why, their clothing is next to noth-ing.” He set a time limit, said he might then call a strike for a clothed shop.
