If people are indeed what they eat, then the 500 guests at last week’s Manhattan benefit dinner for the March of Dimes were the cream of the philanthropical crop. Having dished out half a grand each, the glittery gourmands were treated to a five-course meal featuring sweetbreads and | truffles, lobster, frogs’ legs and lamb prepared by some of the top chefs of France in honor of Food Critic and Chef Pierre Franey, 64. Proving that too many cooks can spoil the guests, Gastronomic Masters Paul Bocuse, 59, Alain Chapel, 47, Gaston Leniotre, 64, Jacques Maximin, 36, and Roger Verge, 53, raised a deliciously rich total of $250,000. Says Bocuse: “We all put our hearts into this meal.” And hang the cholesterol.
