While most non-animated movies steer clear of merchandizing, the studios behind Memoirs of a Geisha (Columbia, DreamWorks and Spyglass Entertainment) have planned nearly 100 products to accompany the film, which opened in the U.S. last month. Those apprehensive about Geisha trucker hats or beer coasters will be pleasantly surprised by the tastefulness of the range, however—participating companies are decidedly upscale.

D.L. & CO. This Los Angeles-based apothecary (dlcompany.com) researched body powders used by real geishas to create new pear and rose scents for its series of luxury candles.

THE REPUBLIC OF TEA This high-end tea purveyor (republicoftea.com) based its blend of Sencha tea and cherry essence partly on scenes in the book.

BANANA REPUBLIC The casual-wear company (bananarepublic.com) cites Memoirs as an inspiration behind its new collection. Look for kimono-style tops, velvet chinois jackets, tassel necklaces and quilted purses.

ICON This artsy cobbler (iconshoes.com) has printed photo stills and details from Geisha sets—including bamboo doors and wall hangings—on a range of shoes and bags.

FRESH The cosmetics maker (fresh.com) based the look of its bath and beauty collection on a kimono belonging to Sayuri, the film’s protagonist. The set includes Fresh’s popular Rice Face Wash, a makeup palette and bath oil laced with sake.
