In Constantinople the second anniversary of the arrival of Mustapha Kemal Pasha’s forces at the city (TIME, Oct. 15, 1923) was observed as a holiday with jubilant Nationalist demonstrations.
Students paraded the streets and paused before the British Embassy to shout: “Down with England! We want Mosul! Bla-a-a-a-ah!” Representatives of Britannia made no reply, and the students eventually passed on.
