TIME

At Rotorua, N. Z., Admiral Robert E. Coontz, Commander of the U. S. Fleet, was presented by a native tribe, the Arawa Maoris, with a casket for President Coolidge. The formerly cannibalistic donors expressed the hope that a treaty for world peace between the U. S. and Great Britain would eventually find in their casket a snug resting place.

On the same day news was flashed from Washington that upon his return Admiral Coontz will surrender command of the Fleet to Admiral Samuel S. Robinson, and will be assigned as Commandant of the Fifth District Headquarters at Hampton Roads. He will then revert automatically to the rank of Rear Admiral.

At Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Auckland, N. Z., gobs were dined, danced, feted. “The smartness of the sailors’ uniform, the precision of their movements and their excellent marching won much applause.”
