ANIMAL EDITION

GOOD WEEK/BAD WEEK

Noc the Whale

New research indicates that the late beluga was able to mimic human voices

Crystal the Monkey

The capuchin’s star vehicle, NBC’s Animal Practice, went on indefinite hiatus

WTF

Folly Lama

Does the Dalai Lama have a potty mouth? During a recent lecture, the iconic figure urged Brown University students to either share their peaceful thoughts with others or “forget it.” The stenographer, however, heard a different kind of F word and projected the expletive on a giant overhead screen. Holy $#!%, indeed.

!#$%\*???

JUST DESSERTS

Out of This World

This winter, go ahead and ask for the moon–or at least an edible version of it. As part of a European marketing stunt, Hagen-Dazs and design firm Doshi Levien created this cratered ice cream cake, which serves six to eight. The treat is inspired by Georges Mlis’ groundbreaking 1902 film Le Voyage dans la Lune, which means you’ll totally get more cultured while eating it–right?

$42 MILLION

Amount boy banders One Direction earned over the past year, vaulting them past other U.K. stars like Adele

JUMPING FOR JOY

Paris has plenty of bridges, but what about one that’s just for fun? Enter French architecture firm AZC, which submitted this whimsical trampoline concept–allowing residents and tourists alike to hop across the Seine–to the ArchTriumph design competition. Alas, the winning projects, which include a floating art gallery and a bridge-amphitheater hybrid, are largely created for show, not implementation.

TWEET BEAT

We \[heart\] the ’90s

Now that Urban Outfitters is selling rainbowful Lisa Frank school supplies, we asked TIME’s Twitter followers, Which other ’90s products deserve a comeback?

“Zubaz, because I’m tired of seeing Mitt and Barack in the same boring suits.”

–@AOL\_alexonline

“Giga Pets would save parents money. Who can afford a real pet nowadays?”

–@MisterTyler

“Clinton-era tax rates. Also, Sock ’em Boppers. Both would make debates in Washington so much more interesting.”

–@adrianmuniz

“Reebok Pumps! Eye-catching, status symbol.”

–@aryaalatsas

“SURGE. That crazy caffeinated drink made Mountain Dew look like a sleeping pill.”

–@Justin\_DeFord

HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT

“What boxers do has movement and depth,” says photographer Howard Schatz, and yet most boxing pictures appear “still and flat.” Not so in his works–including the portraits of Shane Mosley, above, from the new book At the Fights: Inside the World of Professional Boxing–which use tactics such as throwing water, salt and powder on athletes to elicit their raw strength and energy. QUICK TALK

Casey Wilson

She might play manic, slightly unhinged serial dater Penny on ABC’s Happy Endings (Tuesdays at 9 p.m. E.T.), but in real life, “I’m just overly optimistic,” Wilson jokes. “I leave doors unlocked because I think everyone’s a great person.” Here, the 32-year-old SNL vet lets loose with TIME.

–NICK CARBONE

I hear Penny gets a boyfriend \[played by Nick Zano\] this season. Congrats.

And he is, there’s no other way to say it, gorgeous. So she instantly thinks of herself as a relationship guru and starts to annoy everyone. And she’s like, “I can tell you from being in a successful relationship …” and they’re like, “For 10 days!”

That doesn’t bode well.

It doesn’t go great, no. And what else? We reveal that a bunch of our characters’ friendships were formed on The Real World.

Seriously?

It was a lost season of The Real World: Sacramento. So we watched those tapes. But one of the housemates burned down the house, so they never aired it.

Do you watch any other TV shows?

Oh my gosh, I’m too much of a Real Housewives fan. I love watching how derailed, how emotionally bankrupt these women are. I’m fascinated by it. I’ve taken to tweeting pretty much exclusively about The Real Housewives.

Sounds like the first step to admitting a problem.

It is a problem. My friends are like, What are you doing? Every city provides endless human oddities. I love watching human oddities.

Switching gears: I read you once stumped for Hillary Clinton?

I called to just volunteer, thinking I’d be passing out flyers, and they flew me to Indiana, and I got to introduce Mrs. Clinton and President Clinton at different little rallies for a week. I felt like they should have someone more high-profile. It was surreal.

How were the Clintons?

So sweet! President Clinton was asking me what sketches I had done on SNL, and I was telling him about this one that I do of a paraplegic stripper, and he laughed … and I thought, I’ll take that as a laugh.

Would you do it again in 2016?

Oh, yeah. Hillary is so smart and, I think, so undervalued. She’s my homegirl. I love Obama, but I’d really love to see her run.

3 THINGS YOU DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THIS WEEK

1\. The Bachelorette bucking its own trend.

Emily and Jef, who got engaged in the July 22 season finale, are the sixth franchise couple–out of eight–to call it quits.

2\. Even the slightest hint of Taylor Swift fatigue.

The singer sold roughly 4.5 million singles from her new album, Red, by the end of its first day of release.

3\. Where to take your nerdiest friend to dinner.

Starting Nov. 6, Denny’s will offer a Hobbit-inspired menu, including offerings like Gandalf’s Gobble Melt and Hobbit Harvest Pies (in both pecan and pumpkin).
