In other events at the games, Texas’ Randy Matson uncorked a toss of 66 ft. 7⅝ in. to win the shotput; and Florida’s John Pennel won the pole vault, jumping 16 ft. 5 in. \> Army Lieut. David Meredith, 26: the National Service Rifle (.30 cal.) championship of the National Rifle and Pistol Matches, scoring 796 points (out of a possible 800) and hitting the center bull’s-eye 79 times in 160 shots. Another winner at the month-long matches: WAC Lieut. Margaret Thompson, who outshot 2,000 male competitors with a .30-cal. rifle to win the Navy Cup, firing a perfect score of 100\. \>Connecticut: the Little League World Series, beating Canada 3 to 1 in the finals; at Williamsport, Pa. Pitcher Mike Roche allowed only three hits while striking out 14, and First Baseman Dale Misiek, the biggest player in the series (at 5 ft. 10 in., 180 Ibs.) cracked a two-run homer to provide the winning margin for the team from Windsor Locks, Conn.
