Nazril Irham, the Indonesian pop star widely known as Ariel, was sentenced to 3½ years in jail and fined about $28,000 because of homemade sex videos, starring him and two female celebrities, that turned up on the Internet last year. The singer was found guilty of violating Indonesia’s controversial 2008 antipornography law. According to Ariel, who plans to appeal, the videos were stolen. The sentence pleased few. Ariel’s supporters were disappointed, as were Islamic hard-liners who desired a tougher judgment.
