### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. Through Project Managers Without Borders, PMI connects chapters and volunteers with nonprofits and NGOs that need project management expertise to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of social initiatives. Americans are torn over the aggressive U.S. military operation that resulted in the [capture](https://time.com/7342864/venezuela-caracas-strikes-trump/) of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, early polling suggests.

Only about a third supported the operation, according to a [Reuters/Ipsos poll](https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/only-33-americans-approve-us-strike-venezuela-reutersipsos-poll-finds-2026-01-05/) conducted Sunday and Monday. The poll also found that 72% of respondents feared that the U.S. would become overly involved in Venezuela as a result of the attack.

But poll respondents were split along party lines. About 65% of Republicans approved of the military intervention, whereas only 11% of Democrats and 23% of independents did.

Other polls showed a similar partisan divide. About 66% of Republican respondents in [YouGov surveys](https://today.yougov.com/politics/articles/53813-americans-are-divided-on-us-military-action-in-venezuela) completed in the 48 hours after Maduro was captured said they strongly or somewhat supported the U.S. using military force to capture Maduro, compared to just 14% of Democrats and 27% of independents. Overall, about 36% of adults approved of the operation and 39% opposed it, the surveys found. About 25% said they were unsure how they felt about the strike.

And Americans were split over whether the operation would improve the situation in the South American country: 34% said yes, while 35% said it would worsen the political climate there.

The Saturday attack came after [months of pressure](https://time.com/7340252/venezuela-oil-tanker-trump-machado-maduro/) by the Trump Administration against Maduro’s government over allegations of drug trafficking. The U.S. operation—the largest of its kind in Latin America since the 1989 invasion of Panama—stunned lawmakers and the public. The Trump Administration has heralded the military action as a victory, but it has drawn [outcry](https://time.com/7343348/trump-venezuela-maduro-un-security-council-meeting/) from global leaders. A spokesperson for the United Nations Human Rights office [said](https://news.un.org/en/story/2026/01/1166707) on Tuesday that the operation has made “all States less safe around the world.” Several Democratic lawmakers have [called](https://time.com/7343574/trump-impeachment-calls-gather-pace-venezuela-fallout/) for President Donald Trump’s impeachment in the aftermath of the attack.

Trump’s [assertion](https://time.com/7342937/venezuela-trump-maduro-oil/?itm%5Fsource=parsely-api) following the operation that the U.S. would “run the country” until a “proper and judicious transition” of power takes place also sparked controversy, as did his decision to name [Delcy Rodríguez](https://time.com/7343035/delcy-rodriguez-venezuela-president/), who served as Venezuela’s vice president under Maduro beginning in 2018, as the most likely candidate to take over governing the country, while distancing himself from Venezuelan opposition leader [María Corina Machado](https://time.com/7343295/venezuela-machado-trump-nobel-peace-prize/). Rodríguez was formally sworn in as the nation’s interim president on Monday.

**Read More:** [_How the World Is Reacting to the U.S. Capture of Nicolas Maduro_](https://time.com/7342925/venezuela-maduro-capture-reaction/)

A poll conducted by journalists at [The Washington _Post_](https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/interactive/2026/venezuela-maduro-poll-trump-military/) who texted more than 1,000 Americans to ask them for their thoughts on the attack yielded results similar to the Reuters/Ipsos and YouGov surveys: About 40% approved of the U.S. using military force, while 42% opposed it and 18% said they were unsure how they felt about it. Results again differed based on political affiliation: 74% of Republicans approved, compared to 13% of Democrats and 34% of independents.

But the majority of Americans—63%—said that the attack should have required congressional approval, according to the _Post_’s poll. Those reactions were again split along party lines, with only 24% of Republicans saying that the Trump Administration should have gotten congressional approval to embark on the operation, compared to 94% of Democrats and 70% of independents.

Democratic lawmakers have [condemned](https://time.com/7343574/trump-impeachment-calls-gather-pace-venezuela-fallout/) Trump for not getting authorization from Congress to launch the attack.

“I cannot stand by as my Republican colleagues allow President Trump to defy the rule of law, repeatedly overstep the authority of Congress and undermine our national security and the well-being of my fellow Americans,” Rep. April McClain Delaney of Maryland [said](https://mcclaindelaney.house.gov/media/press-releases/congresswoman-mcclain-delaney-statement-trumps-illegal-actions-venezuela) in a statement on Monday. “Over the weekend, we saw the President—without authorization or approval from Congress, as required by our Constitution—launch an attack on Venezuela and voice his intention to ‘run’ the country.”

The _Post_ also found that about half of Americans felt that the U.S. should try Maduro for drug trafficking charges. Maduro [pleaded](https://time.com/7343200/maduro-venezuela-charges-court-plea-cilia-flores/) not guilty to charges including narco-terrorism and conspiracy to import cocaine on Monday. Appearing before the New York court, he called himself a “decent man” and “a prisoner of war.” His next court appearance is scheduled for March 17.
