### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. Through Project Managers Without Borders, PMI connects chapters and volunteers with nonprofits and NGOs that need project management expertise to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of social initiatives. Nick Reiner has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder following the stabbing deaths of his parents, Hollywood [director Rob Reiner](https://time.com/7340824/rob-reiner-michele-singer-death-tributes-investigation/) and his producer wife Michele Reiner, who were found slain in their Los Angeles home over the weekend.

The Reiners’ younger son was arrested without incident on Sunday night at a park near the campus of the University of Southern California in downtown Los Angeles, several hours after his parents’ bodies were discovered.

He appeared in court on Wednesday for the first time and did not enter a plea. Reiner’s lawyer, Alan Jackson, told Judge Theresa McGonigle of Los Angeles Superior Court that he sought to finish his arraignment on Jan. 7 so that he could see all the evidence involved in the case.

When asked if he agreed to waive his right to a quick arraignment and delay it until January, Reiner responded, “Yes, your honor,” before leaving the courtroom and ending the roughly five-minute hearing.

Jackson said outside of the courthouse that there were “very complex and serious issues associated with this case” that required time to be reviewed and that the public should not “rush to judgment.”

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said at a press conference on Tuesday that no decision has been made on whether the death penalty will be pursued by prosecutors and that his office will take the “thoughts and desires of the family into consideration” in making such a decision, which he added is the course of action taken in any death penalty case.

Even if prosecutors pursue the death penalty and secure a conviction against Reiner, a [moratorium](https://www.gov.ca.gov/2019/03/13/governor-gavin-newsom-orders-a-halt-to-the-death-penalty-in-california/) on the practice instituted by California Gov. Gavin Newsom through an executive order from 2019 would prevent the execution. That, however, could change with the election of a new governor in 2026.

Hochman noted that the case rises to the level of “special circumstances” due to the multiple murders being alleged, and that Reiner will face “special allegation” for his alleged use of a knife.

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Chief Jim McDonnell said that investigators are not yet sure whether the murders of Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Reiner, 68, occurred on Saturday night or Sunday.

“We are waiting on the coroner to be able and to try and determine as best they can time of death,” he said at a press conference at the Los Angeles Hall of Justice on Tuesday.

The timing of the stabbing could impact how the case is prosecuted. Nick Reiner was reportedly seen [having an argument](https://www.cnn.com/entertainment/live-news/rob-michele-reiner-death-investigation-12-16-25-hnk?post-id=cmj93dc4a000a356plvuzcij6) with his father on Saturday night at a holiday party hosted by television host Conan O’Brien in Los Angeles.

Reiner was [reported](https://www.cnn.com/entertainment/live-news/rob-michele-reiner-death-investigation-12-16-25-hnk?post-id=cmj93aauz000q3b6pcub652bj) to have been living in the guest house on his parents' property, although he was not present when authorities arrived at the scene.

The LAPD’s robbery homicide unit, gang and narcotics detectives, and a U.S. Marshals Service task force contributed to discovering Nick Reiner, amounting to “good, solid police work,” McDonnell said.

Officials are not disclosing whether Reiner’s family members provided information that led to his arrest.

“As we move forward, that information will be discussed in the appropriate venue, which would be the court,” LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said.

Reiner has previously said he has gone to rehab multiple times and has been homeless. He has also spoken about arguments he had with his parents while struggling with addiction.

McDonnell declined to say whether Reiner was under the influence when he was taken into custody on Sunday.

The defendant’s mental health could play a factor during upcoming hearings, according to officials.

“If there is evidence of mental illness, it will be presented in court and in whatever detail the defense seeks to do that,” Hochman said.

Jackson, the lawyer representing Reiner, has taken on other high-profile clients in the past. He is well known for representing convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein, the actor Kevin Spacey in a 2019 sexual assault case where charges were [dropped](https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/17/us/kevin-spacey-charge-dropped), and, recently, Karen Read, who in June was acquitted of second-degree murder in the death of her boyfriend, John O’Keefe.

Jackson said it is not known when Reiner’s first court appearance will take place.

“You have to be medically cleared to be transported to the courthouse, and he has not,” Jackson said.

Jackson did not comment on how he became affiliated with Nick Reiner’s case.

The two prosecutors assigned to the case against Reiner are Habib Balian and Jonathan Chung, both experienced trial lawyers who have managed similar cases. Balian, an assistant head deputy district attorney for Los Angeles County, was a key part of an effort to halt the resentencing of [Lyle and Erik Menendez](https://time.com/7285303/menendez-brothers-erik-lyle-resentencing-parole/), who killed their parents in 1989\.

Jake and Romy Reiner, children of Rob and Michele Reiner, spoke publicly on Wednesday for the first time since their parents’ deaths, calling them “horrific and devastating.”

Jake, 34, and Romy, 27, described the “unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day” in a statement.

“The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience,” they said. “They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

Close friends of Rob and Michele Reiner released a joint [statement](https://apnews.com/article/rob-michele-reiner-ap-statement-close-friends-a9be43c1748bd6c955744c1fbae12389) to the Associated Press in which they remembered that the couple “had devoted a great deal of their lives for the betterment of our fellow citizens. They were a special force together-dynamic, unselfish and inspiring. We were their friends, and we will miss them forever.”

The statement was signed by Billy and Janice Crystal, Albert and Kimberly Brooks, Martin Short, Alan and Robin Zweibel, Larry David and Ashley Underwood, Marc Shaiman and Lou Mirabal, Barry and Diana Levinson and Ambassador James Costos and Michael Smith.

Less than 24 hours after the Reiners were found in their home, President Donald Trump took to Truth Social and lambasted Rob Reiner’s politics, baselessly blaming them for his death, referring to his “incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME” and his “raging obsession” with the President.

Trump’s comments sparked [fierce blowback](https://time.com/7341135/trump-rob-reiner-republicans/) from figures across the political spectrum, including those within his own party.

“This statement is wrong,” [wrote](https://x.com/lawler4ny/status/2000613891869454695) Republican Rep. Mike Lawler of New York, whose district voted for former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race. “Regardless of one’s political views, no one should be subjected to violence, let alone at the hands of their own son. It’s a horrible tragedy that should engender sympathy and compassion from everyone in our country, period.”
