Three officers were injured, with two taken to the hospital to receive treatment—one was struck on the head by a bottle and the other sustained "an arm/ shoulder injury," police confirmed. At least 24 people were arrested primarily for "public order offenses." Per the authorities, the public disorder was predominantly carried out by "young adult males and teenagers." Of those, 17 adults have been charged with public order offences and appeared in court on Thursday morning. Five male juveniles who were among the arrested have been released and are due to be dealt with under Dublin's Youth Diversion Programme. Two other adult male arrestees were released without charge. The chaotic scenes on Wednesday evening mirrored those that took place on Tuesday, when the riots took a grave turn and a Gardaí van was set on fire. A Gardaí helicopter circling the violent scene was also targeted with a laser, [authorities said](https://www.garda.ie/en/about-us/our-departments/office-of-corporate-communications/press-releases/2025/october/serious-public-disorder-saggart-co-dublin-21st-october-2025.html). The demonstrations started on Monday night outside the Citywest Hotel in Saggart, a village in County Dublin, after reports that a 10-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by an asylum seeker. A 26-year-old male suspect appeared in court on Tuesday, charged in connection with the alleged assault, which reportedly took place near the hotel. Chief Superintendent [Michael McNulty said](https://www.facebook.com/reel/1355320982774216) his officers have been subjected to “sustained levels of violence” when attempting to disperse the crowds formed outside the hotel. “This was not a peaceful protest. The violence exhibited was thuggery and an attempt to intimidate and injure,” reported McNulty on Wednesday. “Attempts to breach the Garda cordon were also made by charging the line with horse drawn sulkies (carts).
