**_Warning: Spoilers ahead for_** **The Guest**

The Colombian [thriller series](https://time.com/7206769/severance-season-2-review/) _The Guest_ (La Huésped), out on Netflix on September 24, follows a family full of secrets. Lorenzo (Jason Day), a candidate for attorney general, is married to Silvia (Laura Londoño), and their relationship is strained due to Lorenzo’s infidelity. Their daughter, Isabela, struggles with drug addiction, bringing further instability. When Sonia (Carmen Villalobos)—a woman Silvia met during a recent trip and with whom she shared an intimate encounter—arrives at the family’s home unexpectedly, her presence sets off a chain of events that puts everyone's lives at risk.

The finale of the 20 episode series reveals Sonia’s motivations and brings a series of manipulations and confrontations to a close. Here’s what to know about the ending of _The Guest._

## **The truth about Sonia**

Sonia, whose real name is Rocío, has harbored a long-standing obsession with Lorenzo dating back to her childhood that has never been reciprocated. When she meets Silvia, their intimate connection gives Sonia a way to insert herself into the family’s life, allowing her to monitor and manipulate events to her advantage. Sonia acts with meticulous precision: she installs cameras, poisons Silvia’s therapist, and engineers situations to get closer to Lorenzo, all while maintaining subtle control over the family.

She also creates the illusion of having an accomplice named Libardo, who in reality does not exist, exposing her mental instability. Sonia’s combination of obsession and delusion allows her to manipulate allies and set traps, using her intimacy with Silvia as a tool to infiltrate the family’s daily life and advance her agenda.

## **Isabela’s accident and the blackmail**

Isabela becomes involved in a serious accident: while driving, she hits a man who falls into a coma. The accident is unintentional but places the entire family in a precarious situation. The police begin investigating, adding pressure on Lorenzo, Silvia, and Isabela. This incident becomes a central point of vulnerability that Sonia and her allies exploit to manipulate the family.

A few days after the accident, Isabela is targeted by Matis, who is acting under Sonia’s instructions, demanding a large sum of money in exchange for keeping the incident quiet. In desperation, she steals one of Sonia’s jewels, planning to use it as a means of payment or protection, but Lorenzo discovers her actions and enlists Sonia’s help to resolve the situation.

When Matis becomes unpredictable, he is killed by Sonia and Libardo. During these events, Isabela suffers another opioid overdose and is later sent to a rehabilitation clinic. Even there, she is not safe: Pepe, Sonia’s brother, kidnaps her from the clinic and hands her back to Sonia, keeping Isabela at the center of tension until the very end of the series.

## **The final confrontation**

In the final episodes, Sonia captures Silvia and Isabela, keeping them trapped inside the house. She raises the stakes by setting the house on fire, putting both of their lives in immediate danger. During the chaos, Silvia realizes she has been slowly poisoned, revealing the full extent of Sonia’s calculated and ongoing plan.

Lorenzo confronts and incapacitates Pepe, Sonia’s main ally, before facing Sonia herself. She is caught up in a delusion, convinced that her imaginary accomplice Libardo is accusing her of betrayal. In a tense and emotional exchange, Sonia forces Lorenzo to face her blame for never loving her. The confrontation ends when Lorenzo disarms her and shoots, neutralizing the threat and securing the safety of his family.

## **The family’s fate**

With Sonia dead, Lorenzo, Silvia, and Isabela survive the fire—but not without consequences. Lorenzo must deal with the repercussions of his infidelity and the weight of all the manipulation. Silvia faces the trauma of having been poisoned and closely manipulated, while Isabela deals with the aftermath of the accident and the blackmail, struggling with her guilt and the ongoing challenges of her addiction, though she is never taken into custody.

The finale makes it clear that although the external threat has been eliminated, the family still faces internal challenges. Physical survival does not mean the emotional and legal conflicts are fully resolved, but their unity in the closing moments shows they can face the final obstacles and, at least for now, overcome the events that nearly destroyed them.
