"As if to encourage continued conflict, some of this body is seeking to unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state," said Trump. "The rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists for their atrocities. This would be a reward for these horrible atrocities, including October 7." Trump said he has been "deeply engaged" in trying to procure a cease-fire in [the Israel-Hamas war, ](https://time.com/tag/israel-hamas-war/)and insisted that he wants all hostages to be released. "We have to get it done," Trump emphasized. "This could have been solved so long ago, but instead of giving into Hamas ransom demands, those who want peace should be united with one message, release the hostages _now_," he said, arguing that Hamas has “repeatedly rejected reasonable offers to make peace.” Ahead of Trump's U.N. General Assembly address, White House Press secretary Karoline Leavitt [vowed](https://x.com/PressSec/status/1970484836617048246) it would "be one of his biggest foreign policy speeches yet" and that "the world is going to see what American strength looks like." [Leavitt maintained](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47q4tGmhioc) that the President's address would “articulate his straight-forward and constructive vision for the world.” Following his speech, during which he took aim at the United Nations and claimed they offered no help to him in his efforts to end world wars, Trump [expressed his belief](https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115254363337739989) that his words had been "very well received." The President is now expected to host bilateral meetings with U.N. Trump's viewpoint regarding Palestinian statehood is in stark contrast to that of the European leaders in attendance at the U.N. France co-chaired a conference alongside Saudi Arabia on the debate surrounding Palestinian statehood at the U.N. General Assembly on Monday, with French President Emmanuel Macron formally declaring that France recognizes the state of Palestine. “We are here because the time has come. The time has come for the release of the hostages held by Hamas. The time has come to stop the war, the bombardment of Gaza, the massacres and the flight of civilians,” said Macron, who maintained that recognition is the “only solution that will bring peace to Israel” and affirms the “legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.” The United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Portugal all [announced their recognition](https://time.com/7319179/uk-recognizes-palestinian-state-canada-australia/) of a Palestinian state on Sunday. U.K. Prime Minister [Sir Keir Starmer said](https://x.com/Keir%5FStarmer) the recognition was put forth “to revive the hope of peace and a two-state solution” and serve as “a pledge to the Palestinian and Israeli people that there can be a better future.” Trump, much like Netanyahu, [has previously condemned](https://time.com/7319268/palestine-state-recognition-un-trump-netanyahu/) the idea of recognizing a Palestinian statehood. Trump was asked about the U.K.’s move at [a press conference](https://time.com/7318622/trump-rebukes-putin-russia-ukraine-war-ceasefire/) alongside Starmer that took place during his state visit last week. On the topic of Palestinian statehood, Trump said: “I have a disagreement with the Prime Minister on that score. European leaders have since issued [warnings to Israel,](https://time.com/7319268/palestine-state-recognition-un-trump-netanyahu/) advising the country's leaders against annexing parts of the occupied West Bank. In August, Israel approved Finance Minister [Bezalel Smotrich's plan](https://time.com/7309628/west-bank-settlements-israel-plan-controversy/) to build more than 3,000 new housing units as part of a settlement project in the West Bank. Following the recent move from many countries towards recognizing Palestinian statehood, Smotrich spoke of efforts to annex the West Bank by way of a response. "The days when Britain and other countries determined our future are over, the mandate has ended, and the only response to the anti-Israeli move is sovereignty over the homeland of the Jewish people in Judea and Samaria, and the removal of the foolish idea of a Palestinian state from the agenda forever," [he argued](https://x.com/bezalelsm/status/1969760196324143245). ## Transcript [00:00] What is the purpose of the United Nations? [00:02] The UN has such tremendous potential. [00:05] I've always said it. [00:06] It has such tremendous, tremendous potential. [00:10] But it's not even coming close to living up to that potential. [00:14] For the most part, at least for now. [00:16] All they seem to do is write [00:18] a really strongly worded letter and then never follow that letter up. [00:23] My administration has negotiated one historic trade deal after another, [00:28] including with the United Kingdom, [00:30] the European Union, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, [00:34] Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, [00:36] and many, many others. [00:39] Likewise, in a period of just seven months, [00:42] I have ended seven unending wars. [00:46] They said they were unmendable. [00:48] You're never going to get them solved. [00:50] Some were going for 31 years, [00:52] two of them 31. [00:54] Think of it 31 years. [00:55] One was 36 years. [00:57] One was 28 years. [00:59] I ended seven wars and in all cases [01:04] they were raging with countless thousands of people being killed. [01:10] This includes Cambodia and Thailand. [01:14] Kosovo and Serbia. [01:16] The Congo and Rwanda. [01:19] A vicious, violent war. [01:20] That was. Pakistan and India. [01:23] Israel and Iran. [01:25] Egypt and Ethiopia. [01:28] And Armenia and Azerbaijan. [01:31] It included all of them. [01:34] No president or prime minister. [01:36] And for that matter, no other country has ever done anything close to that. [01:41] And I did it in just seven months. [01:44] It's never happened before. [01:46] There's never been anything like that. [01:48] Very honored to have done it. [01:49] It's too bad that I had to do these things instead of the United Nations doing them. [01:56] And sadly, in all cases, [01:58] the United Nations did not even try to help in any of them. [02:03] All I got from the United Nations was an escalator that on the way up, [02:07] stopped right in the middle. [02:09] If the First lady wasn't in great shape, [02:12] she would have fallen. [02:13] But she's in great shape. [02:16] We're both in good shape. [02:17] We both stood. And then a teleprompter. That didn't work. [02:24] This is. These are the two things I got from the United Nations. [02:27] A bad escalator and a bad teleprompter. [02:30] I didn't think of it at the time because I [02:33] was too busy working to save millions of lives. [02:36] That is the saving and stopping of these wars. [02:39] But later I realized that the United Nations wasn't there for us. [02:43] They weren't there. I thought of it really after the fact. [02:47] Not during not during these negotiations, [02:50] which were not easy. [02:51] Everyone says that I should get the Nobel Peace Prize for [02:54] each one of these achievements, but for me, [02:58] the real prize will be the sons and daughters who [03:01] live to grow up with the mothers and fathers because [03:04] millions of people are no longer being killed in endless and inglorious wars. [03:11] With Iran's nuclear enrichment capacity demolished, [03:14] I immediately brokered an end to the 12 day war, [03:17] as it's called, between Israel and Iran, [03:21] with both sides agreeing to fight. [03:23] fight no longer. As everyone knows, [03:27] I have also been deeply engaged in seeking a ceasefire in Gaza. [03:32] Have to get that done, have to get it done. [03:35] Unfortunately, Hamas has repeatedly rejected reasonable offers to make peace. [03:41] We can't forget October 7th, can we? [03:44] Now, as if to encourage continued conflict. [03:48] Some of this body is seeking to unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state. [03:54] The rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists for their atrocities. [04:01] This would be a reward for these horrible atrocities. [04:04] Europe is in serious trouble. [04:06] They've been invaded by a force of illegal aliens like nobody's ever seen before. [04:12] Illegal aliens are pouring into Europe. [04:15] Nobody is ever. [04:16] And nobody's doing anything to change it, [04:18] to get them out. It's not sustainable. [04:22] And because they choose to be politically correct, [04:26] they're doing just absolutely nothing about it. [04:31] And I have to say, I look at London, [04:35] where you have a terrible mayor, terrible, [04:37] terrible mayor, and it's been so changed, so changed. [04:42] Climate change. It's the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world, in my opinion. [04:49] Climate change, no matter what happens, [04:51] you're involved in that. [04:53] No more global warming, [04:55] no more global cooling. [04:56] All of these predictions made by the United Nations and many others, [05:01] often for bad reasons, were wrong. [05:04] They were made by stupid people that have cost [05:08] their country's fortunes and given those same countries no chance for success. [05:12] If you don't get away from this green scam, [05:15] your country is going to fail. [05:16] And I'm really good at predicting things. [05:18] You know, they actually said during the campaign that a hat, the best selling hat. [05:23] Trump was right about everything. [05:25] And I don't say that in a braggadocious way, but it's true. [05:28] I've been right about everything.
