### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. Through Project Managers Without Borders, PMI connects chapters and volunteers with nonprofits and NGOs that need project management expertise to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of social initiatives. [Elon Musk](https://time.com/collections/time100-ai-2025/7305842/elon-musk-ai/) could stand to become the world’s first trillionaire under a new pay plan Tesla released on Friday, if he manages to meet lofty corporate goals.

Musk’s compensation under the plan would come in the form of Tesla shares. In order to achieve that unprecedented thirteen-digit net worth, the Tesla CEO would need to massively increase the company’s market value over the next decade, according to the [proxy statement](https://www.sec.gov/ix?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/0001318605/000110465925087598/tm252289-4%5Fpre14a.htm#tTSCD) released by Tesla. He would also have to stay at the company for ten more years in order to earn the full amount laid out in the package.

“Retaining and incentivizing Elon is fundamental to Tesla achieving these goals and becoming the most valuable company in history,” stated a letter from Robyn Denholm and Kathleen Wilson-Thompson, members of the Tesla board, to shareholders.

The proposal must still be approved by shareholders. A vote is likely to be held at an annual shareholders meeting on Nov. 6\.

The plan could face some pushback. In the past, Tesla shareholders have been [reported](https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-investors-message-for-elon-musk-stay-away-from-politics-2025-7) as being critical of Musk’s political involvement and what they saw as the billionaire straying from his responsibilities as CEO. In 2018, the company’s shareholders [approved](https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/musk-says-both-tesla-shareholder-resolutions-passing-by-wide-margins-2024-06-13/) a similar compensation package for Musk, although one shareholder objected to the package and filed a lawsuit against the company.

Legal challenges to the newly proposed package are also possible. In 2024, a Delaware judge [shut down](https://apnews.com/article/elon-musk-pay-delaware-judge-texas-9d8c2212443a8fb77ef030ca96022b65) for the second time the 2018 compensation package for Musk, which could have seen the Tesla CEO receive more than $50 billion. Like the proposal released on Friday, the 2018 package was a 10-year performance-based incentive for Musk.

And raising the company’s market value is easier said than done. Over the last year, as Musk faced controversy over his ties to Trump and brief tenure overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency in the President’s second Administration, Tesla’s sales have [decreased](https://time.com/7266929/heres-how-teslas-sales-have-been-hit-around-the-world/). The company’s stock value has also seen [dips](https://time.com/7291584/tesla-stocks-musk-trump/) in recent months, affecting the overall value of Musk’s shares.

But if the pay plan is approved and he manages to achieve the formidable targets, he could as much as triple his already world-leading net worth.

## **What is Elon Musk’s current net worth?**

Musk’s net worth is $430 billion as of Friday, according to [Forbes](http://v), making him the richest person in the world.

A majority of that wealth comes from his ownership stakes in Tesla and rocket producer SpaceX, which he founded in addition to the artificial intelligence company xAI.

## **What are the terms of Tesla’s proposed payment plan?**

Right now, the market value of Tesla is just under $1.1 trillion. Musk would need to increase that number to $8.5 trillion over the next decade in order to receive the additional shares that could make him a trillionaire. Meeting the goal would make Tesla’s market capitalization “approximately equal to the combined market capitalizations of each of Meta, Microsoft and Alphabet,” according to Tesla’s proxy statement.

Other milestones in the proposal Musk would need to meet in order to receive his reward include the deployment of autonomous taxis and humanoid robots, an inchoate industry Tesla is heavily investing in.

“Leading research analysts estimate that the humanoid robot industry could soar to approximately $4.7 trillion in global sales by 2050,” the pay plan states. “Consistent with such projections, Tesla is developing Optimus, a humanoid Bot, with the long-term vision of transforming labor and productivity both commercially and in homes.”

If Musk succeeds in meeting the goals, he would be awarded 423.7 million shares of Tesla stock. The additional shares could add roughly $900 billion to his current net worth.

Although the proposal is designed to retain Musk at Tesla for the foreseeable future and oversee a record-breaking rise in market value, it does not restrict Musk from his involvement in any of his other companies or political escapades.

## Transcript

That pollution that is hurting our community, that is quite literally taking the breath from people, right, is to power a racist bot on behalf of the richest man in the world. This is Colossus, a supercomputer that Elon Musk calls the most powerful AI training system in the world. Colossus is fueling Musk's company x AI and its large language model named grok. The data center sits a few miles away from Boxtown, a predominantly black community in Memphis. Some Boxtown residents say that the pollution from the gas turbines that have powered Colossus over the last year is worsening their respiratory issues.

You smell like gas now and it didn't smell like gas before Elon came. I literally can taste it. I can taste the difference now. Some local leaders insist that the rewards vastly outweigh any potential risks. They become our largest investor, and short order people are starting to look at Memphis, and we've got this burgeoning reputation as a tech and innovation hub. Building infrastructure for the oligarchy is a really scary path to start walking. And it is sickening that the only way we're going to be able to get any financial benefits from our government is by accepting the death dealing, pollution killing XII plants.

Tax money. It'll be a policy of the United States to do whatever it takes to lead the world in artificial intelligence. AI is America's newest big industry. Like its predecessors, it uses a lot of resources relying on energy, water, and land. And Elon Musk is at the forefront of America's rush into AI. In 2023, he wanted to build a powerful AI that could compete with cutting edge models like ChatGPT. So he looked for a location to quickly train his AI. The chainsaw for bureaucracy. And found a willing partner in Memphis, a city with deep economic challenges. Origins. On June 5th of last year, 2024, Elon Musk and XII came in and built up methane gas turbines.

They did it without any community input, and they did it in a clandestine way to where our elected officials didn't know the project even existed until the day it was announced by the Greater Memphis Chamber. I found out, just like everybody else sitting in my living room, reclined, chilling. And there it was, in my exact words were, wow, the way you conducted business and neglected to get the community involved. Why would I trust you? Musk needed a vast amount of energy to power his data center, but the local utility did not have enough electricity to supply him with. So Xai turned to 35 unpermitted temporary gas turbines, which had been pumping out a level of emissions that, according to environmentalists, mentalist is exacerbating the health issues of an area already crushed by decades of pollution.

This area that we're in was also redlined. And so you're going to see a high concentration of black people who live here in those redlined places. They were zoned for industry and heavy industrial uses. This polluter has moved faster, has built bigger, has created even more pollution than any other organization in the city of Memphis. And you did that within 12 months. Our life don't mean a hill of beans to them. They come out here and put more pollution on us. You be breathing. Chemicals smell like, you know, rotten cabbage. I had an asthma attack the other night for the first time in, what, like 15 years, maybe.

I couldn't breathe and I was like, momma, I cannot catch my breath. I feel like my chest was caving in. I couldn't catch my breath. I had to use my inhaler twice. Not once, but twice. Our lungs are not for sale. Our lives are not for sale. I mean, it is worrisome that folks are willing to speak so much about, oh, there's all this economic opportunity, but then they ignore all of the health impacts that we're dealing with. XII did not return a request for comment on this story. But some local leaders argue that the financial opportunities from XII are too big to pass up. So we notice walking in that that conference room, says XII.

Digital Delta center. Can you tell me about that? Well, let me tell you. We'll put your name on it for a brief sponsorship. Look, we have names over here on the wall, a little sponsorship. We're a chamber of commerce. We don't get funds from local government. So what this project represents for us, it's a wonderful opportunity that's going to be tremendously beneficial to the city. Even when you look at the city's budget, what we anticipate from this company is going to be something that, uh, wow, I can't believe that some percentage of the overall city's budget could be funded by the taxes that will come from the company.

We have folks who will go to these community meetings and complain about temporary gas turbines, half of which have already disappeared, and they'll be driving a car where we're smoking like it looks like they're cooking barbecue in the back. And they won't make the connection between the idea that there are some things happening in the community that are of a bigger priority if you really want to get at air quality. And so the disappearing temporary gas turbines and the backup generator gas turbines I would submit to you, my friend, are not the biggest. Fish we have to fry as it relates to us doing a better job with the environment.

Well, I respectfully disagree in the sense that by our calculations, they were the biggest fish to fry in terms of being the largest industrial source of smog forming pollutants over the past year. And if they had gotten the appropriate permit at the appropriate time, they would have been required to install pollution controls that would have avoided a lot of unnecessary emissions that can cause real harm to people on the ground. Time asked researchers at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, to analyze air quality data from satellites run by NASA and the European Space Agency. Their report showed a marked increase in peak nitrogen dioxide concentration levels in Boxtown and other areas nearby the plant.

High levels of Mno2 can aggravate respiratory diseases, particularly asthma, according to the EPA. I've said this even regarding critics. Let's have a conversation another year from now. Let's have a conversation two years from now. But the type of investment and infrastructure they are building out is not the type that you easily leave and go somewhere else. You know, water innovation and water sustainability has not been in the conversation in Memphis really ever. We've got this pure, clean, cheap water body right below our feet and we've used and abused it. A key potential benefit involves water.

Data centers use a vast amount of water to cool their computers, and Musk has started work on an $80 million wastewater plant down the road from the facility. The plant would treat sewer water and repurpose it for XYZ uses and allow other entities nearby to stay off the city's aquifer. So having a facility like this, that would actually get some major industrial users off the aquifer and using wastewater that we aren't going to see again is a huge step in the right direction for water sustainability. Pretty much southern half of the county's wastewater comes here. Like, have you been thinking about what it means to get something that you've wanted for so long?

But the circumstances are strained, to say the least? Yes. I think, um, building infrastructure for the oligarchy is a really scary path to start walking. I don't support billionaires owning all of our infrastructure. That is a dangerous place to be in, and public interest should not be based on profits. It should be based on our core needs. And one of which is clean drinking water. As President Trump's AI action plan calls for reducing regulations of the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act to speed up development of data centers. XAI is building out a second location in Memphis, just a few miles away.

That's double the size of the first site. Musk's acceleration is only spurring forward his competitors to build their own big data centers, too. And the Trump administration is cheering them on. If the suffering is happening here, it will happen elsewhere. Air doesn't know any borders. Pollution doesn't know any borders. Clean air is a right for who? Everybody. And we're not going anywhere. We're not going to quit until this issue is resolved. For black people do not have to be treated as gambling chips for massive corporations. It's a unifying issue, and it requires all of us to stand up against the richest man in the world to be able to make mountains move.

The people united will never be divided. We'll never be divided. The people united will never be divided.
