After all, he has been serving as president of the United States since January 2017\. Despite that fact, when Jimmy Kimmel’s team hit the streets of Los Angeles, they found an alarming number of people who wanted to impeach Clinton—even though she is not President. “[Hillary Clinton](http://time.com/4207609/hillary-on-the-race-her-rivals-and-angry-voters/?iid=sr-link2) doesn’t have a job to get impeached _from,_ but did that stop people from demanding she be removed from office? Let’s find out,” Kimmel asked on Tuesday night’s episode of _Jimmy Kimmel Live!_ before playing the interviews his team collected on the street. When asked whether Clinton should be impeached, one man firmly said: “Yes, definitely. For what she’s done, the way that she’s kind of… more or less, with the Russian deal and all that going on, she definitely should be out.” A woman who claimed she is “not a political person at all” gave an emphatic “yes” when asked if Clinton deserved to be impeached. However when she was asked why, she shrugged: “I really have no clue.” Another man had a few ideas about Clinton’s crimes, though: “extortion, treason…if there was a Benedict Arnold law, it would be her.” Comedian Jordan Klepper also [asked people this question](https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2017/09/the-opposition-with-jordan-klepper-sneak-peak-clip-comedy-central) (with similar results) as part of the lead up to his Comedy Central series, _The Opposition with Jordan Klepper_. ## Transcript [00:00] Morning, we're gonna go ahead and get started. [00:02] Although a couple people are gonna join us. And a [00:05] couple other people who are on the resolution will not [00:08] be here today. But I'm proud to stand here with my [00:11] friend, Congressman Gutierrez, with other Congress [00:14] people that will be here, and announcing that we're [00:16] introducing articles of impeachment. To remove [00:18] President Trump from office. There would b, I believe [00:21] six signatories on the resolution. We have [00:26] taken this action because of great concern for our [00:29] country, and our constitution, our national security, and [00:33] our democracy. We believe that President Trump has [00:36] violated the Constitution, and we've introduced five [00:38] articles of impeachment. The first is obstruction of [00:42] justice, which deals with Mr. Comey's firing. The [00:45] second is a violation of the Constitution's foreign [00:48] emolument clause, which deals with monies he's taken [00:51] from foreign powers without the consent of Congress. [00:54] The third is a violation of the Domestic Emoluments [00:56] Clause which deals with monies he's made from the [00:59] United States at his personal businesses beyond that of [01:02] his person salary, which is also forbidden by our [01:04] Constitution. The fourth is undermining our federal [01:08] Judiciary and the [ UNKNOWN ] is undermining [01:10] freedom of the press. These are aggressive actions he [01:13] has taken over a period of time against the press and [01:17] against the judiciary with the positive actions to cap off [01:22] a series of pattern of behavior belittling and [01:27] Questioning these institutions that are so important for [01:29] our democracy. The judiciary obviously is in the [01:32] constitution an equal branch of government. The press [01:35] is not in the constitution but freedom of press is and [01:38] he's threatened licenses of broadcast stations, so [01:42] called fake news and other actions [01:46] that Hurt our democracy. The definitely [01:51] hurt our democracy. They're fundamental parts of it. [01:53] So we're calling upon the house to begin impeachment [01:56] hearings immediately. It's not a call for a vote. It's a [01:59] call for hearings. I don't expect the house judiciary [02:03] committee which is operated like a branch of the [02:05] administration to take up hearings. It's [02:09] their responsibility in my opinion, and I believe [02:11] Congressman Gutierrez and our other colleagues to [02:14] have hearings. But of the four committees that have [02:18] jurisdiction, House and Senate Intelligence and House [02:21] and Senate Judiciary, the House Judiciary, which is [02:24] particular committee which would have responsibility [02:26] for bringing impeachment charges through the [02:28] Constitution. Al, come join us, please. Has [02:33] that responsibility, and which, if I sit as the ranking [02:36] member on the constitution sub committee, has not [02:38] taken any action whatsoever, or had any hearings [02:41] whatsoever. And because of that, it's even more [02:44] important that congressman Gutierrez, who's a [02:45] member of the committee, and myself, Bring this [02:50] impeachment article for failure of our chairman to even [02:54] have hearings. If we don't have hearings which we [02:56] don't respect, we won't be holding briefings and [02:59] participating the briefings on these particular charges [03:02] to let people know what's going on as we. Experience [03:07] them, that the Constitution is being violated, that our [03:09] democracy is being threatened and to bring these [03:13] charges to light in the form of briefings with experts [03:16] who will help us explain them to the American people. [03:20] Some people may say why in light of the investigation [03:22] of Bob Muller. We support Bob Muller's investigation [03:24] but he's looking at criminal charges. And that can or [03:29] may not be an impeachable offense. More likely than [03:32] not, it will be. We think he's gonna come up with [03:35] things. But that's for him, and it's gonna take some [03:36] time. There's no reason why we don't start now with [03:39] definite Violations of our constitution and threats to our [03:41] democracy. There are already sufficient facts in the [03:45] public record to warrant the start of impeachment [03:47] proceedings in congress. Given the magnitude of the [03:49] constitutional crisis there's no reason to delay. With [03:52] regard to obstruction we know president Trump fired [03:55] FBI director Comey while the bureau was investigating [03:57] potential collusion with Russia And the Trump [04:00] campaign and the president has already admitted on [04:02] national television that he had the Russian investigation [04:04] on his mind when he fired Director Comey. We already [04:07] know that Donald Trump Jr. met with the Russian [04:10] attorney, who offerred to bribe damaging evidence on [04:12] Hillary Clinton, as part of Russian Government's efforts [04:15] to help his. Father's campaign. These facts are [04:19] uncontested. They are similarly clear cut facts with [04:23] regard to the foreign and domestic emoluments [04:24] clauses. You just have to go to the Trump hotel, the [04:27] Trump Tower, See what the Saudi's have paid. What [04:31] other foreign governments have paid. What the Secret [04:32] Service is paying. What people pay to stay at [04:35] Mar- a- Lago and other expenses that we are paying [04:37] right now. And it is because President Trump, unlike [04:40] any President in history has not released his taxes and [04:43] has not put his ownership of assets into a blind trust. [04:47] [ BLANK_AUDIO ] [ NOISE ] [ BLANK_AUDIO ] [04:52] The framers of our Constitution wisely prohibited [04:55] Presidents from the accepting the payments as have [04:58] been made. Such as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia [05:00] paying $ 270, 000 to the Trump International Hotel as [05:04] part of their lobbying effort. And the embassy of [05:07] Kuwait held an event there spanning give or take, [05:10] $ 50, 000. [ BLANK_AUDIO ] Harry Trueman [05:14] didn't do it. President Eisenhower didn't do it. The [05:18] Bush's didn't do it. Nobody's done it. Nobody benefits [05:21] financially, directly, as they are President of the United [05:25] States. It demeans the office. It demeans the Country. [05:28] It demeans the Constitution. President Trump is [05:31] repeated this as the Trump branded properties, which [05:33] he retains an ownership interest. And that has caused [05:36] the federal government to spent money there. As I've [05:38] mentioned, Secret Service golf carts at Mar- a- Lago, [05:41] lodging at Mar- a- Lago and Hawaii couldn't help it [05:43] said that the golf tournament. Or maybe it's Korea. [05:46] Their golf tournament was won by a Korean. It was at [05:49] his golf club. [ BLANK_AUDIO ] [05:53] Well- established record of President Trump with [05:55] regard to undermining the independence of the [05:56] judiciary.
