The singer was long ago [reported to be the top choice](http://time.com/4720885/beyonce-nala-lion-king/ "undefined") for the role. Director Jon Favreau [previously announced](http://time.com/4675809/the-lion-king-donald-glover-james-earl-jones/ "undefined") that _Atlanta_‘s [Donald Glover](http://time.com/4894331/star-wars-donald-glover-on-han-solo-ron-howard/ "undefined") will star as Simba. James Earl Jones — who voiced Simba’s father, Mufasa, in the original 1994 _Lion King_ — will reprise his role. The all-star cast also includes Keegan-Michael Key, John Oliver, Seth Rogen and Chiwetel Ejiofor, among others.
