Chicago Fire star Jesse Spencer is used to playing the hero, but he became one in real life — or at least gave the real guys an assist — when he helped tourists break out of a trapped elevator at the Illinois State Capitol Sunday.
Some people recognized Spencer from the show, while others mistook him for a real firefighter, since he was wearing a baseball cap with a fire department logo. Spencer managed to pry open the elevator doors, which allowed him to get reception on his cell phone, and called 911.
The actor later took a photo with the Springfield firefighters who responded, and tweeted:
