Meyers dedicated his _Late Night_ segment “A Closer Look” to [Bannon](http://time.com/4455686/who-is-stephen-bannon-trump/?iid=sr-link5) after word came out that the former Breitbart executive had been [removed](http://time.com/4726905/steve-bannon-national-security-council-reshuffle/?iid=sr-link4) from the National Security Council. According to Meyers, the [_New York Times_](https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/05/us/politics/national-security-council-stephen-bannon.html?%5Fr=0) reported that Bannon’s demotion was at least in part due to Trump’s not being “pleased” over the “President Bannon” themes promoted by the media. Meyers took the opportunity to apologize to the president for hurting his feelings. “This is terrible timing, but I guess I shouldn’t have commissioned that official presidential portrait of Steve Bannon,” said Meyers, before unveiling several other President Bannon memes.
