The Most Googled Fashion Questions of 2016

2 minute read

Google is man’s (and woman’s) best friend when it comes to discovering both the necessary and the mundane. From recipes to song lyrics, the search engine pretty much has it all. At the end of the year, Google provides a report listing the top trending search terms for nearly every category imaginable. In 2016, fashionistas took to Google to learn some necessary hacks, reports Glamour.

In terms of questions about fashion, readers were curious about becoming models and how to style their clothes. The top question was “How to cut sleeves off a shirt?” Other than what is seemingly obvious of cutting along the sleeve’s seams of the shirt, people looked for more fashion tricks such as “How to wear booties with skinny jeans?” and “When can you start wearing white?”

2016 felt like a throwback year in fashion, where trends paid homage to earlier decades with the return of jean jackets and chokers. This led Googlers to wonder “What did people wear in the 90s?” and “How to dress like a hippie?” As it seems, some fashion trends will never perish.

Fashion fiends were not only curious about clothes, but designers, too. Rachel Roy, the designer accused of having an affair with Jay Z and potentially the inspiration for “Becky with the Good Hair,” topped the charts of Most Googled Fashion Designer. Other names included Mary Kate and Ashley Olson and Beyoncé.

The Oscars are a time for designers to show off their best work, and searches spiked during and after the awards show. Jennifer Garner’s black Versace dress was a show-stopper, hence why it was the number one searched Oscars dress of 2016. Priyanka Chopora in Zuhair Murad and Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton inspired searches as well.
