Released Tuesday, the [trailer](http://time.com/4575128/lemony-snicket-series-of-unfortunate-events-trailer/) shows Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes) and Sunny (Presley Smith) coping after their parents die in a fire while trying to avoid their treacherous guardian Count Olaf ([Neil Patrick Harris](http://time.com/4556831/series-of-unfortunate-events-count-olaf/)). The trailer warns that the story will [not have a happy ending](http://time.com/4556831/series-of-unfortunate-events-count-olaf/), advising audiences to “watch something more pleasant instead.” At each miserable turn, Violet, Klaus and Sunny try to solve the mystery of their parents’ death only to encounter Count Olaf in various disguises as he tries to steal their fortune.
