Mitt Romney, former Republican presidential nominee, is under “active consideration” for secretary of state, Vice President-elect Mike Pence said in an appearance on Fox News Sunday.
Romney, who met with Donald Trump on Saturday at the President-elect’s golf club in Bedminster, N.J., told reporters later that he and Trump had a “far-reaching conversation.”
“They had a good meeting,” Pence said. “It was a warm and a substantive exchange and I know he is under active consideration to be Secretary of State … along with some other distinguished Americans.”
The friendly meeting between Trump and Romney is in direct contrast to their relationship during the election year. Romney, a harsh critic of Trump, called him a “con man” and a “fake,” while Trump referred to him as a “choke artist” for losing the 2012 election to President Obama.
