5 Songs You Need to Listen to This Week

2 minute read

Five new songs to take you into the weekend, from the latest Bruno Mars track to a Britney Spears’s remix and new music from up-and-coming 18-year-old rapper Trapo.

Trapo, “Stop Me”

Eighteen-year-old Trapo, a rapper from, yes, Wisconsin, layers his nimble, politically prescient rhymes with a kind of world-weariness and self-awareness that suggests a much more mature perspective. “Stop Me” has swagger and anger in equal measure.

Britney Spears, “Slumber Party” feat. Tinashe

Spears’s remix of the vibe-y, tropical-infused “Slumber Party,” this time featuring the limber vocals of singer Tinashe, gives needed texture and lift to the track, making it one of the best listens on the album right off the bat.

Pharrell, “Crave”

Pharrell brings his signature golden touch of funk to the soundtrack of Hidden Figures with “Crave.” Just try not to get into the groove of the master producer, who scatters the track with hand claps, horns, and a searching falsetto.

Little Mix, “Touch”

Powerhouse Brit girl group Little Mix’s new album, Glory Days, would make a good soundtrack for a weekend girls’ trip. “Touch” is less sugary than some of their other offerings, showcasing strong vocals and a spot-on pop sensibility.

Bruno Mars, “That’s What I Like”

Bruno Mars continues his playfully irreverent streak on 24K Magic with “That’s What I Like,” an upbeat jam that will serve you well if you’re trying to woo someone. He’s not subtle, but the easy production and smooth flow manage to stay fresh.
