1 minute read

Pope Francis has called for “dialogue, mutual acceptance and fraternal cooperation” the morning after Donald Trump’s election to the U.S. Presidency.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday for one of his near daily messages to the faithful, the Pontiff implored for the world to share more of god’s “merciful love”:

According to the Associated Press, the Vatican first reacted to Trump’s election with a wish for global peace.

In a statement to Vatican Radio, Cardinal Pietro Parolin offered congratulations and prayers to Trump. “The Lord illuminates and sustains him in service of his country, naturally, but also in service of the well-being and peace of the world” he said.

“There is need for everyone to work to change the global situation, which is in a situation of severe lacerations and great conflict.”
