On Saturday night, Chicago Cubs players (and 2016 World Series Champs) Anthony Rizzo, David Ross and Dexter Fowler made an unexpected visit to SNL—joined by noted Cubs superfan and SNL alum Bill Murray. They stopped by to perform an “original composition” as the “winners” of the first-ever The Voice contest on Weekend Update. Wearing matching blue sweaters and barbershop-quartet-style boater hats, they each introduced themselves slyly before Murray surprised the crowd with his appearance.
“Right now, for me, it’s all about our music,” Murray explained to the hosts, before the foursome brought on a troupe of backup singers and launched into their jubilant rendition of the Cubs song, the 1984 classic “Go Cubs Go.”
“Hey Chicago, what do you say / The Cubs are gonna win today,” they sing. While it’s probably fair to say that none of the four would make it very far on the real version of The Voice, the triumphant song will bring joy to any Cubs fan.
