Miranda Kerr Reveals She Had ‘Really Bad Depression’ After Orlando Bloom Split

2 minute read

Miranda Kerr recently revealed that she fell into a “really bad depression” after she split from ex-husband Orlando Bloom in 2013.

In an interview for Elle Canada for it’s December issue, the 33-year-old supermodel described herself as a “naturally positive person,” but that she had “never understood the depth of [depression] or the reality of that” before the couple’s separation.

“My mom used to call me a ‘giggling Gert’ because I was always laughing, even in my sleep,” she said. “When Orlando and I separated, I actually fell into a really bad depression.”

Kerr was married to the 39-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean actor for three years before they split. She did learn valuable lessons from that experience, telling Elle Canada that “every thought you have affects your reality and only you have control of your mind.”

Kerr said she began meditating twice a day and keeps up the practice, adding yoga and healthy eating to the mix.

“And also, when I wake up and when I go to bed, I have that attitude of gratitude and I say, ‘Thank you for this beautiful day, for this roof over my head, for the fact that I have my health and my son has his health, and thank you for our family,’” she added.

Bloom and Kerr are amicable and co-parent their 5-year-old son, Flynn. Bloom is now dating Katy Perry, 32, while Kerr announced her engagement to Snapchat CEO and founder Evan Spiegel on Instagram in July.

“What I have found is that everything you need, all of the answers are deep inside of you,” she said. “Sit with yourself, take a few breaths and get close to your spirit.”
