[Wood](http://time.com/3533218/hobbit-safety-videoair-new-zealand-lord-of-the-rings/?iid=sr-link9) stopped by _The Late Show_ on Thursday night to talk about his upcoming BBC series _Dirk Gently_, and Colbert was thrilled to make his acquaintance. The sentiment was kind, but the meeting was a little awkward. Because apparently this wasn’t the first time Wood and Colbert had met, and this wasn’t the first time that Wood was a guest on _The Late Show._ This was news to [Colbert](http://time.com/4534681/stephen-colbert-president-obama-job-interview/?iid=sr-link3), though, and as they argued about their relationship status, the once-cordial conversation quickly devolved into a chilly war of words.
