### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. Through Project Managers Without Borders, PMI connects chapters and volunteers with nonprofits and NGOs that need project management expertise to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of social initiatives. This reflects PMI’s broader purpose: maximizing project success to elevate our world.

**Watch** **_Children of 9/11, 15 Years Later_** **now at People/Entertainment Weekly Network. It’s free, and it’s available on streaming devices, including Apple TV, Roku, etc. Just download the PEN app on your Smart TV, mobile and Web devices, or you can check it out at** [**people.com/PEN**](http://www.peopleewnetwork.com/)**.**

They are the final gifts their fathers left behind.

Known as the Children of 9/11, they were the 100 or so babies born after their fathers died on September 11, 2001, in the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history. PEOPLE first introduced them in a cover story just a [few months after 9/11](http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20199602,00.html) and then again [10 years later](http://www.people.com/people/archive/issue/0,,7566110912,00.html) in 2011\.

Now, 15 years after 9/11, PEOPLE is once again catching up with several of those kids – now teenagers – and their families in a new special _Children of 9/11, 15 Years Later_ on the PEOPLE/Entertainment Weekly Network (PEN), a free streaming network premiering September 13\.

“These children are what comes after 9/11,” says Jenna Jacobs, whose son Gabriel was born six days after the death of his father Ariel. “They are the joy, the salve, the ointment. They’re the love.”

* [**Lauren McIntyre**](http://www.people.com/article/children-of-911-lauren-mcintyre-wears-port-authority-police-dad-badge-number)‘s father, Port Authority Police Officer Donald McIntyre, died after running into the South Tower to save others. Lauren – who is now 14 and was born less than three months after 9/11 – and her two older siblings, Caitlyn, 20, and Donald Jr., 18, became like surrogate children to their father’s surviving fellow officers, and Lauren is comforted by his final act of bravery.

“I could only imagine how much courage someone could have to go into a situation like that,” says Lauren, who appeared on PEOPLE’s 2011 cover wearing a locket with her father’s photo. (She still wears his badge number on a necklace.) “It’s beyond amazing.”

* [**Ronald Milam Jr.**](http://www.people.com/article/children-of-9-11-ronald-milam-wears-basketball-jersey-honoring-late-father), 14, lost his dad Ronald at the Pentagon while his mother, Jacqueline, was five months pregnant with him. (She was working on the other side of the building during the attack.) A high school basketball player, today Ronald Jr. wears the number 33 on his jersey, the age his father was when he died.

“I feel like my dad is watching me,” he says. “Every move I make, he’s here.”

* [**Gabriel Dick**](http://www.people.com/article/children-of-9-11-gabriel-dick-does-not-want-sympathy), 14, and his mother Jenna release balloons with notes attached to Ariel, who died while attending a conference at the World Trade Center, on the anniversary of 9/11 each year.

“Some people believe in God or the greater power,” says Gabriel. “I believe that the ones close to you that we’ve lost are there to help you, watching every step you take.”

* [**Jamie Pila**](http://www.people.com/article/children-of-9-11-jamie-pila-feels-dad-presence-even-on-hard-days), who was born six months after her dad James died on the 86th floor of the North Tower, is “the special gift he left for us,” says her mom Jill.

“My mom says I’m brave like \[my dad\],” says Jamie, 14\. “When I do well on something or have a big moment, I wish he was here with me.”

* [**Robyn Higley**](http://www.people.com/article/children-of-9-11-robyn-higley-never-grieved-fathers-death), 14, who was born seven weeks after her father Robert died, says the loss has given her a different perspective from her peers. “I’ve always been aware of the world,” she says. “The world should be a place where it’s okay to be who you are, and to love whom you love and believe what you believe. Underneath, what we’re made up of is the same.”

* [**Allison Lee**](http://www.people.com/article/children-born-after-parents-died-911-allison-lee) – whose father Dan was on Flight 11, traveling to be home for his daughter’s imminent birth – has learned that her sadness is also coupled with happiness about the joy her dad brought others. “There’s always an empty spot,” says Allison, who will turn 15 on September 13\. “But on September 11, we celebrate my dad’s life.”

[01:59] had to know that he was not making it out of He had to
[02:00] know he was not making out of there. [ MUSIC ]
[02:06] I was due on March 11th which was the six month
[02:08] anniversary. I end up giving birth on March 12th and
[02:13] I mean she was a special gift he left for us. My mom
[02:17] tells me all the time that I'm like Kim. She says like I'm
[02:20] brave like Kim. We started to share the story
[02:25] of Jim with Jaime as soon as we will able to
[02:27] communicate with her. It's important that she
[02:30] understands who he was and what special person he
[02:33] was cuz that's where she came from. Come to daddy
[02:34] okay. Wow that's a hugaroo.
[02:40] I've seen many pictures of him, Nicole, my mom And
[02:44] I wish I had a picture of him to look at with him. To
[02:49] Jimmy it was a little abstract because she does another
[02:52] father and as long as she remembered she's had this
[02:55] other father Jay. We
[02:58] both for widows and we both have two children and
[03:00] then we connected and blend our families together
[03:03] and it's so nice to be able be in love again It's kind of
[03:06] hard most of the time to not have known my biological
[03:11] father. But at the same time, my dad now, we're very
[03:13] connected and it feels like he is my real family. Jamie
[03:17] is honestly equally close with all of her siblings now,
[03:21] Nicole, Ross and Ariel. But Ross. And Jaime have a
[03:25] special connection. He's kinda the reason I play hockey
[03:28] and he's helped me improve a lot over the years. One
[03:32] place I play hockey at is at camp and the biggest team
[03:35] there is called the Gordon Cup Team. I've been
[03:37] wanting to be on it for a couple of years. And no other
[03:41] girls at have been on it at my camp before. I tried out
[03:44] and I made it. As the first girl. She
[03:49] has no hesitation about trying something new. She'll go
[03:52] on any roller coaster, she'll go down any mountain on
[03:56] her snow board, she'll try anything. She has no fear.
[03:59] [ MUSIC ]
[04:06] I think we're a happy family. And more than that I think
[04:08] we're a very strong family given all we've been through
[04:10] together. Like it or not 9 / 11 is a big part of who we
[04:14] are. It's not our identity. But it's a part of who we are.
[04:18] And it's important for them to understand How that
[04:21] now history affects them directly and their family. I've
[04:25] seen you by my whole life, but I never really
[04:27] understand the whole thing since I was so young. And
[04:30] it was kind of on the tenth year anniversary, when I
[04:32] started to understand more as I started to become
[04:35] older and mature. [ MUSIC ] I am
[04:41] here and I'm stuck right now. Jamie heard the interview
[04:44] here first because I wanted to present it to the middle
[04:47] school but I wanted her to be aware of what she was
[04:49] gonna be hearing in school. So she heard it with me
[04:52] first. It's the only time I've really ever heard him speak
[04:56] And it really does prove to me that how amazing and
[04:59] brave of a person he really was. [ MUSIC ] I
[05:06] look at them and I see him, and it couldn't make me
[05:09] happier that I have his legacy living on in them. We're
[05:13] really close and it's because We're both so much like
[05:17] him in different ways. He's very selfless, and they
[05:22] do a lot of things like he did. One example is the
[05:25] scholarship that we have in his name. We have both
[05:27] raised money for the scholarship, and so we visit
[05:31] University of Michigan pretty much every year and we
[05:33] stay really connected with him through that. My dad
[05:36] was so involved. And my mom's still so involved. And I
[05:40] think everything about it is just really nice. The
[05:42] campus. I love the spirit there. I would like to attend
[05:46] the University of Michigan and carry that on.
[05:52] Everybody who remembers that day, remembers What
[05:56] a tragedy it was and how it changed our world. When I
[05:59] see Jim's name among the thousands of other people
[06:02] who were lost on that day, it makes me realize over
[06:06] and over and over that he was just one of so many
[06:09] lives lost. And so many lives have been changed
[06:11] because of those losses. Obviously, the first thing I
[06:14] think of is Of my dad and how much I miss him. And I
[06:18] wish he was here with me. I'd probably tell my dad
[06:20] about me. And that I love him, and all of the
[06:23] accomplishments I've made in my life. And to thank
[06:25] him for everything. Everyone should have someone like
[06:29] him in their life. Someone who's so selfless and who's
[06:32] so brave and who's so kind. Then when I look at her, I
[06:35] see him. [ MUSIC ] My dad is James M. Gartenberg and
[06:40] he's really inspired my life. [ BLANK_AUDIO ]
