Throngs of visitors and media came to [Malaysia’s](http://time.com/4363930/mahathir-mohamad-malaysia-najib-razak/) [National Zoo](https://twitter.com/NationalZoo/status/767027171911200768?ref%5Fsrc=twsrc%5Etfw) in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate the tenth birthday of [famous pandas](http://time.com/4155777/pandas-china/) Liang Liang and her one-year-old cub Nuan Nuan on Tuesday. (The mother panda was born on Aug. 23, 2006, and her one-year-old cub was born on Aug. 18, 2015, according to the [_Wall Street Journal_](http://www.wsj.com/articles/photos-mother-daughter-pandas-celebrate-birthdays-at-malaysia-zoo-1471969211).) Pandas have become [symbols of political diplomacy](http://time.com/4170789/the-panda-doctrine/), and Liang Liang actually traveled to Malaysia on loan to commemorate forty years of diplomatic ties between China and Malaysia, according to [Xinhuanet](http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2016-08/23/c%5F135627727.htm). The zoo commemorated the occasion with great ceremony. There was even a towering colorful cake, which the panda considered, but didn’t appear to be that interested in from the video.
